I am looking for a good place to hunt prairie dogs in TX, or East NM. I live in MS so these would be the closest for me I think. I prefer to use a guide, or at lease have someone show us where the dogs are.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Buck,

The best prairie dog populations in Texas are from Lubbock north and west. Likewise, the NM areas adjacent to the Texas panhandle are your most likely spots.

Google the Chamber of Commerce in some of the larger small towns in this area (Dalhart, Dumas, Littlefield, Levelland, in Texas for example, and maybe Clayton, Clovis, and Portales in NM.) Send them an email or call asking if they'll help with prairie dog hunting (as well as hotels and restaurants). You'll likely get some helpful responses.

I don't know what license is required in NM, but in Texas you can shoot prairie dogs and other "non game" species on a 5-day hunting license that I believe runs around $50.

Contact Fred Pronger at Stratford, Tx. He has lots and can show you around on his place.
