I am new to the world of coyote hunting. I have hunted deer and elk for a few years, but now I have the itch for coyotes. But I have no clue were to start. I was hopeing to get pointed in the right direction. From calls and places to go here in Colorado. Any help will be a plus.
Thanks

Once you start with coyotes, you might never want to quit.

The basic distress calls work very well. I always have 2 cotontail, 1 jackrabbit and a howler on my lanyard. I also carry a fawn in distress call. Sometimes coyotes show a clear preference for one call/pitch over the others.

Where to go in Colorado: E,W,N and S. They are all over the state. Some areas are better than others. North park, Middle Park and South park have many good places. The Pawnee Grasslands can be very good. Ask for permission on private land, you will usually get it.

Good luck.

Let me second what K-22 Hornet said. Although you will hear many stories about ranchers, if you are polite, ask ahead of time, and graciously accept no for an answer, you might get some great hunting. If told no, ask if they might know a neighbor who allows hunting. I've done this and lucked into better areas than I first asked about! Be especially careful and respectful of their land and you'd be surprised at the chances you'll have for other hunting.

Equipment-wise, keep it simple to start. Also, plan on good camouflage. Stay alert.

and keep in mind they don't give a damn about fur season. They only care about their livestock getting eaten by coyotes.

Especially in calving season it's more important than anything.
Have some cards made up and pass them out with a msg on them: "call me when you have varmint problems".

There's a guy live's in that little village up 285 from Ft Collins that makes n sells calls. Searcy, do a search on him. He'll fix you right up with calls and how to use 'em, might even take you out and teach you a few tricks.

Not Virginia Dale though, back south of there. Can't think of the name of the place. Hwy runs right thru the housing area.

Good luck,
George

His name is Major Boddicker and he lives in LaPorte.

Pawnee Grasslands is only good at night with a permit.
South Park is probably your best bet after the big game seasons are over. Unless you have good private land locations on the eastern plains.

I prefer handcalls. I can add 'emotion' to the call, whereas with electronics, it's the same sound. Electronics do work of course.
