If I understand CZ's catalog correctly the 527 varmint .223's have a twist rate of 1:9". The other non-varmint .223's have a twist rate of 1:12". Does anyone know if this is correct? Is the faster twist too fast for factory 50 or 55 grain bullets and is it fast enough to stabilize the 62 grain bullets? If it could handle both that would be great - cheap military ammo for cases and lighter bullets to juice hogs with! Last question - does anyone have a 527 varmint and what do you think? Thanks for the input.

I have a 527 Varmint with the laminate stock in .223, after bedding and a recrowning it shoots consistent sub 1/2 inch groups. The bullet it likes best is Sierra's 40 grain Blitz-King. So much for the 1 in 9. Other favorites are the 50 grain Sierra SP, and the 55 grain V-Max, in that order. If your a reloader try Benchmark, the best .223 powder I've used to date. This rifle shoots way better than it ought to for what it cost.---Shoot Safe---montdoug

I have a CZ 527 American that likes 40 gr Ballistic Tips and 50 gr Speer TNTs. I have a Savage with the 1 in 9 inch twist that shoots those into tight groups as well as bullets up to about 69 gr (the heaviest I have tried.)

I have a CZ Varmint with the HS Precision stock. So far my best results (1/2" groups) have been with 40 Ballistic Tips. I have the 1 in 9 twist. Very satisfied with gun, the set trigger is great.

gahunter2, have you tried 40 grain V Max's or 40 grain Blitz-Kings? both shoot well in mine, and their cheaper, cheaper is good. Glad it's shooting.---Shoot Safe---montdoug
