I use Leupold's 6.5-20X50 and 8.5-25X50 all in the LRT side focus and 30mm tubes. A couple of fixed power Mark 4 in 10 and 16 power.

Mike, Without question I would recommend the Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x40 EFR or the 6.5-20x50 LRT depending on your application. Can't go wrong with either IMHO. Regards, Matt.

If your going to start shooting tactically, a pretty hand little item is Gerald Perry's Exbal ballistics program, www.perry-systems.com It has comeup calculations in various formats (inch, 1/4 and 1/8th", and MOA), and also has a ballistic reticle option that will match trajectory with ballistic-style reticles, i.e. Burris Ballistic Plex, Swarovski TDS, and user-defined (custom and even plex) reticles. P.S. Don't count out some of the bigger Burris's. I've got a 6-24X Signature with Ballistic Mil-Dot reticle that works wonderfully.

What kind of shooting/hunting are you talking about doing? For my prairie dog guns, I have never wanted for more than the 6.5x20x40 EFR Leupolds. PD shooting is done in nice weather and regular daylight hours. The 30mm side focus 50mm jobs are sexy, but overkill IMHO. Special rings, higher scope mount, etc etc. Mainly, more $$ than necessary for 500 yd shots on PD's. If the scope will be used for long range game hunting in low light, then you have a decision to make..... R

The Leupold 6.5 X 20 LRT is a great scope that has served me well, I also have a 4.5 X 14 Tactical Leupold that I use a lot. For an economical scope I have had good luck so far with a Millet 6 X 25. The adjustments are crisp and positive so far. I don't know how it will work in long haul. All are 30mm tubes. Leupold makes a 1" tube 4.5 X 14 that has 67 MOA of adjustment in it that should work well at ranges up to 500 yards. Hope this helps. Shoot Safe, Shoot Straight.....RiverRat

I have an 8-32x40 BSA Contender, I didn't pay an arm and a leg and I can shoot just as good if not better than some of my buddies high dollar scopes. Not to say they aren't good, if I could afford a Leopold I would have one. Thats just my thoughts.
