Found an older flat bolt tang safety Ruger M77V in .243
Looking at shooting out to 300 yards in windy sandy dusty conditions. The Ruger should stand up to the test, shooting gear came back with fine grit on every thing last trip.
I think the old Ruger will spair my more costly rifles.

tu2The tang safety Rugers I've used were all great performers. A .257 Ruger Varmint was the best shooting rifle I've ever owned. At 39 years old it still is MOA. Once in a while there is a flyer. That may , however , not be the rifle. Eekerroger

I would buy one just because my M77v in .22-250 shoots so well. I also have two other tang safty Rugers that I love. In fact they are still quite tempting to aquire others, and I don't need any more rifles. Nate

I have a 220 swift and a 243 rugar 77 tang saftey. I like them both well enough but have had thoughts of getting rid of the 220 swift because Of the trigger. Funny thing is it is adjustable but you can not find a lick of information on which screw does what like the Remington 700 where you can find informatin on adjusting the trigger all over the place.

hopefully the ruger bolt action works for you iv had 3-4 ruger bolt ctions and sold every single 1 of them there nice brush guns but have never been known for top notch accuracy tops 1" at 100 yards and more like 1.5"-2.5" is the norm a 2.5" group isnt a group with a rifle its a shotgun pattern exp at 100 yards.i really like the ruger 1 rifles but they can be tricky to as the for arm hanger can cause accuracy problems in the smaller cal number 1's iv never had accuracy isses with the larger 375 h&h and bigger guns but there small 25-06 and there abouts can be a absolute bitch to tune down below 3/4 moa at 100

in the long run i found its far better to just save your money and buy guns like blaser r93/r8,hs precison bolt actions garantee 1/2 moa, mcmillan famalie of rifles. toped with leaupould or aimpoint optics.

with todays manufacturing processes any rifle that shoots over 1" at 100 yards is a pos and should be set back to the manufacture as a leamon

A friend and I bought a pair of 77Vs in .220 Swift back in '80 or so. I no longer have mine, but due to no fault of the rifle--it was as accurate as I could reasonably have hoped. My friend still has his, and he has no problem at all keeping 3 shots inside 1/2 to 3/4 inch at 100 yards. If I could have a second chance, I'd never have parted company with the one I had. They're very nice rifles.

My 6mm Ruger M77V will do this.

And this

And a bit more of that

All from a factory set up with a 3lb trigger. No complaints re the ruger 77V. I hope you enjoy the pics!

A year or two ago I was hitting the pawnshops and saw an older Ruger 77V on the rack. I figured it was a Swift, 243, or a 25-06, and was very surpised when I read 280 REM 7MM EXPRESS on the barrel. I had never seen a 77V in this caliber and mentioned it to a friend and he bought it that day.

My Son has a 77 sporter in 6m/m Remington that is extremely accurate. I worked on the trigger and finally got it down to a crisp 3 lbs. but it wasn't easy. I bought it used with a Redfield 4-12 5 Star for a little over $400, money well spent.

I take my more costly "spair" rifles and trade 'em for shooters :-)

I've had a 220 Swift in a heavy barrel, a V, a 22-250 R, a 257R UL, and still have a 22-250 and 257R in the RS model in varmint calibers. They have all been better than MOA. The 22 250's are 3/4" and better with cheap WW ammo. I've never had a flat bolt, but they are usually some of the best shooters of the tang safeties. I'm like Mike, pretty is as pretty does. If a dog doesn't hunt, or a pretty girl doesn't cook, I'd find one that would. You've got a winner.
