I have been hunting fox at night using either my 22.mag or my 12 ga. and a Nite Lite mounted on a hat. I have had some difficulty finding the crosshairs when I use the 22, and I am considering buying a Site Pro Crosshair Illuminator, or a similar product. I just don't have the cash to buy a new scope with lit crosshairs. I would prefer a piece of fiber optics that would gather light from my Nite Lite. I am open to suggestions.

Optronics Night Blaster, you can catch them on sale a Gander Mountain or Cabelas. The 100 yard gun light and headlight combo are the sheeet. Whole rig is less than $100.00. The gun light is about $45.00-$50.00. It will light up eyes at way over 85 yards and animals on 3x are totally visable at around 50yards (with the red filter). The mount snaps to your scope or it will clip to the barrel on your 12gauge. I have had mine over a year, my buddy has had his for 2. Coyotes do not seem to like it but foxes do not see it. We do 95% of our hunting at night reds and greys have both fallen to them, it spookes yotes though. Battery stays charged for a good 16 hours continous use. Cord is a PITA but it gets zippered inside my coat and down to the battery. My goes from 870 to 77/22mag then to Hornet less than 3 minutes. Buy some rubber bands get rid of the velcro. No weight added to the gun. Legal in Penna I got jacked up by the WARDEN on the first day (wording is screwy in the book you can not use a laser sight, gun mounted lights are legal to use for furbears and varmits. I comfirmed through PGC for the last 2 seasons). I used some camo tape to tie up the extra cord around the gun. I looked at the Site pro and liked this one better.

I went to Cabela's today to look at the Site Pro Illuminator,(I saw it listed in their catalog) and they didn't stock them. Then I asked the salesman to see an H&R Handi-Rifle in .17HMR, and they didn't have one. Then I asked them about a scope with illuminated crosshairs built in, and the cheapest they had was a Luepold for about $400! It just wasn't worth fighting the crowds!!!! I like the Nite Lite that I have because I can dim it so as not to spook the smart foxes and coyotes. They do get some hunting pressure down here in Berks and Lancaster Co. It came with a snap on mount for attachment to the gun barrel, but I don't like swinging the gun around to see. It works very well on my head, I just need to see the reticles in the scope. But thanks for the suggestions, Hornet. Where do you hunt in PA?

We hunt Adams, Franklin and Fulton. Sometimes Blair Cambria (home town). Gonna branch out to Huntington maybe in the spring. My buddy and I both use a dim red headlight. He uses a predator pro and I use the optronics headlight. You can not see the light reflecting off of trees and what not much past 6 feet (very dim). I keep the gun light( red filter) off and only turn it on a second before the shot. On 9 power you can see way out to 100 yards like it is high noon. Most of our shots are waaaaay under fifty yards at night, more like 15-20 for greys and 25-35 for reds. I will also use it to scan the area for anything hung up at the end of a set when I stand up. The weight is the battery, it goes on your belt. 4 bucks at Wal-mart I got a padded camo bag for that. Now my pants do not fall down. Tonight is a power hunt, 1930hrs when momma gets home until about 0900-1000 in am. We should put up some fur.

Well, good luck there Hornet, I sure miss getting out there like I used to, it's hard to find a baby sitter for all night!! I usually had my best luck after 12:00 nidnight. Traffic and all settled down, then the critters started moving. It would be good till about 5:00, then you might as well pack it in. I had some good times with the reds though. Very few greys down here anymore. Most fox have been shot with the 12 ga., especially early season, but the .22 mag is not far behind. Not bad for not seeing the crosshairs!!!
