I guided one of my free-range Texas blackbuck hunts yesterday up near Camp Wood/Barksdale, Texas. After my hunter left to get his blackbuck to the taxidermist I drove back out to the ranch to make one stand before dark. Within three minutes of starting the "Yellowhammered Woodpecker" on the CompuCaller III I called in and took a nice mature grey fox with my Posse AR. I had the "Stick Tease" feather decoy set out next to the caller. It was a great end to a great day of hunting.

Someone's going to have to wrestle that AR away from Bob. He's having entirely too much fun with it! Of course, the animals are having a blast, too, -- literally. Big Grin

Seriously, though, that's a very nice fox -- and a great way to cap a day of hunting.

Dog gone it Bob, ya' stole my title, now I'll have to come up with something else catchy like
"Doin a quickie on a grey fox".
I didn't get out until almost six pm sat. eve. Been calling about 5 minutes. Female came in and I nailed her with my 17 rem at 20 paces. Will post pix later as I just got in.

Bob,

Good looking fox you old varmint hunter.

Since you posted your pix from the weekend before, I've had a hankering to go varmint calling. As I said before I told my wife I was not going again till march. I guess I shouldn't log on to AR or TPP if I intend to do that. Luckily my darlin' bride of 30 years knows that if I can't hunt regularly I suffer horribly. Consequently she knows better than to think I can go for a couple of months without going to my lease. A couple of nites back Bobby Tomek was selling a rifle. I figured it was a good chance to pick up an encore at a fair price and meet a TPP member and fellow AR poster. Plus, Dzuicks in Castroville had some venison ready that I had processed. So I went to Concan this weekend. If I had known you were in Camp Wood I would have tried to hook up with you.

Anyway, basically drove 650 miles to kill one grey fox. Worked late Sat filling feeders and setting up two new game cams. Didn't get set up until almost 6pm. Set up my quiver rabbit decoy and my foxpro fx3 about 40 yds. out in a dry stream bed. Less than 10 minutes into the first calling sequence this grey fox female came into check it out. She was circling around between me and the decoy. Nailed her at 20 paces with my rem. lvsf in 17 rem. DRT. I got the crud or flu or whatever earlier in the week and felt so bad Sun. AM, I did not hunt. Slept in till nine this am.

Any way, here is my fox. And yes it some what relieved the symptoms. A big fat pig, or another axis would have helped more though.

May just have to go back in a couple of weeks.

GWB-

Very nice going! Between the north wind and you being under the weather, you still managed to turn the evening into a very successful outing.

That's a nice-looking gray, by the way. And at 20 paces, that's enough to get anyone's blood going.

I have a gut feeling you'll be back out there soon -- long before March. After all, that .308 is going to feel neglected if you don't blood it fairly soon...Big Grin

Bobby,
No problem on that, I'll probably mount a scope tomorrow and go to the range either tues. or wed. and try out some different loads. I'll chrono them and take a couple of pix of groups and post later.
