Got a guy that wants me to buy an old Savage219 in 22 Hornet. Probably 40's production. Would it be 223 or 224 groove and about what its worth in good shape? Thanks. (Really would like it)

It is undoubtedly 223. I have no idea about the price.

Did you ask how much he wants for it? Sometimes the price quoted is just right.

Depending on the condition, probably worth $250-300. A little more if in 85% or better original shape, $325?
A little less if needing work.

Look at the color case hardening and wood condition especially. Most of these guns were used alot.
Finding original replacement wood in good condition for any older Savage is getting harder and spendy.

These older Savages are getting more collectible everyday.

Savage 219-B?
I had one years ago. Before you put any money on the gun, take the Hornet to the range and put 20 to 50 rounds through it.
I bought one what had an ENLARGED FIRING PIN HOLE. Bad news!!!

I ended up with it. Has good bore, excellant wood and a nice patina to the metal. Firing pin hole looks good. A primo old steel tube K4 Weaver is sitting on top. That was a nice extra because I seem to acquire those in abundance. jumping Over all very happy with it, at least til I see if it shoots. Should make a nice walkin arounder. $250 with dies, 300 brass, and a few bullets which I will use in my 223.

Work up a load using Lil'Gun, the lightest bullet you can find and small pistol primers. You won't be disapointed.Pete

Just got back from shooting it. Had various loads to try and came up with a winner. It loves the 45gr. Sierra and 12.5gr. Lil Gun. Had Win small pistol primers. The primer seemed to have a significant affect on accuracy. Had the same load with small rifle primers and it was all over. The cheap 46gr. bulk pack Win HP shot decent over H110 and pistol primers. Got some more work to do but feel comfortable taking it out in the field as is. Was getting .750 groups with the Sierras. Good for what I will use it for. Very happy.
