444Marlin. You are missing the boat. Shooting 40gr bullets from a swift at only 3690fps is nothing. A .223 will do that easily. Crank some 50 gr bullets at 3900 fps. Thats what the Swift was designed for. It doesn't supprise me that a Rem would only be able to shoot dime size groups at 50 yds. Heck my .22 Rimfire Marlin will do that.
