Your up pretty early this morning. Tell me a little more about the 22-250. Is it factory or have you worked it over a little?

The 22-25- AI reamer I have is the 40 degree shoulder model. It is one of the few non-benchrest cartridges, that I chamber for, that is a real .1-.2" shooter. Great performance with bullets up to 55gr., in the 14 twist, and deadly on PD's and ground hogs out to 500 yds.

Dr B: That 20-250 should be a real performer in the Varminting arena!
Any idea or have you heard anything regarding barrel life on the 20-250?
That will be a lot of powder burning through that 20 caliber barrel.
If you decide to go with it I wish you the best of luck with it!
Have you considered a "plain old" 22-250 Ackley Improved?
My friends that have them all rave about them!
Barrel life seems to be liveable and brass life is good.
I have always kind of wanted a 22-250 A.I. of my own I just haven't stepped up to that plate as yet.
The one A.I. Varmint Rifle I have now is a 6mm Remington Ackley Improved and I very much enjoy its performance (ballistics and accuracy wise).
Again good luck.
Hold into the wind

I'n not sure on the barrel life but I wold guess that you would get 1000 - 1200 rounds. barrel life isn't a big deal you can have a inch removed and rechambered by Weaver rifles for $130, or you can rebarrel for $160 plus the cost of a barrel. When I calculate how much I spend on shooting, hunting and fishing each year, barrels are cheap.
I would like to have a 22-250AI also just the 20-250imp intrest me more right now.

Do you think that the 22-250AI will match the balistics of my 223 wssm, it should be close. I couldn't be happier with my 223wssm it's a shooter. Under .3 moa with 40gr BT and 44gr Varget at 4400fps. This isn't even a max load.

I forgot this morning when you posted this originally that you have a 223 WSSM. My thought was a 22-250AI probably about 100+ FPS slower than the WSSM for all intents and purposes.

You have the correct bolt face for my other idea. A little less hard on barrels with less MV. Perhaps a little more accurate. Take a look at the 20 BR.

Doctor:

I kinda agree with Jay Johnson, but then I asked my gunsmith about it all, and he pointed out reamers etc.. If you have a gunsmith that already has the reamers, that is a big plus..

I think the 20 BR is a more efficient cartridge... but brass availability, is a down side...

The 22.250 brass is not, and will definitely put Fuel Injection on the old 20 caliber in regards to velocity.... One would have to just be a little prudent on how often you pull the trigger in a short period of time, or you will be changing barrels faster than you would have to change tires on a Ferrari...

I'd lean toward the cheaper and more available brass, and faster velocity.... and having to be a little more prudent on the trigger.....

I am looking at the 20.250 over the 204 in doing a switch barrel on a Savage 12 BVSS....

Who knows, after I burn out the first barrel, maybe I will rethink my rationale.. but the FIRST barrel is going to be the 22.250 case.... I am skipping that Ackley Option....

Now where is this Gunsmith of yours, with the reamer in Hand located? and how do I contact him???

Cheers

I just talke to kevin Weaver at Weaver Rifles about barrelife. He has 1800 rounds through his personal rifle and the throat still looks good. he said he takes good care of it and cleanes it often.
We also talked about the 20-250imp he thinks I might be better off with a strait 20-250 that the imp version dosn't add that much.
Check out his web site he has pictures of his rifle and of a customer with a Cours deer he shot in Mexico with the 20-250imp

Funny you bring this up. I have a Ruger#1 being rebarreled in 20-250A.I. by Kevin as we speak! The reason why I'm going the A.I. is I wanted a longer neck and the 40 deg. shoulder.

You might try lighter bullets(32gr.) at 4300/4400/4500/4800?!?!f.p.s.. Cool His fire forming loads used 33gr v-max's and shot like a house a fire. I was thinking of giving them a try.

Kevin and I also are going to tryout the new polygonal 1-11 barrel by Pac-Nor at a short 30" in a heavy Octagon form. Eeker Wells see! You can ask him or P.M me if you like. Might be three or four months at least before I get my hands on it thou. Frowner
