I have never used a bore snake but have heard many claim that it can greatly extend the period between cleanings. I mainly shoot ar's so a thorough barrel cleaning is a bigger procedure in the field. my question is what is the best procedure for using a bore snake? what chemicals work the best and how many passes does it take to get cleaned up?

IN a bolt 223, I run the bore Snake thru there about every 100 shots in the field... In a 22.250 about half as often...every 50 shots.. I put a little gun oil about midpoint on the bore snake, and run it thru the bore, from magazine to muzzle and that is it...one pass... If I really think I need to clean a bore out, then I do it the old fashion way, but that is pretty infrequent after I started using Bore snakes...
