Winters been a little heavier over that way this year.. so we are looking at a little bit longer this year...

By March 1st to 10th or so, I'd guess you'd be looking at them to start coming out depending on elevation...

Like Lakeview is fairly flat in the local area, but is also at about 5,000 feet in altitude...

check on Alturas and Cedarville CA in Modoc County.. if you have the money for it, Squirrel WARS down in Cedarville is a mega event..

Ft Bidwell to the North of there, has tons of sage rats, with not a lot of shooting pressure...this is also in Calif..

Did you see where Varmint Al was popping them down in California a week ago? He made a video.

Hi Ray,

I've been hunting sage rats, diggers, for about 10 years. What rifles do you use down there? We use mostly 22's because we would melt the barrel off of a center fire if that was all we shot.

Catch you later,

ps, I live just south of you in Tacoma

Woof, woof Big Dog........this will be my fourth trip down there, late March, early April, only bare dirt fields. I could take 25 calibers but can't carry all of them. Favorites are (2) Rem M700 223'2 and a new Cooper LVT IN 17hrm. Not for everyone, but choose optics 20X or greater......maybe a Smith M67 in 17HRM. All the .22 rimfires don't make the trip.......r in s.

Hi again Ray,

I must be missing something? Most of our shooting is with the 22lr. We usally shooy out to 200yds+. We bring a few, ha ha, center fires but most of the shooting is with the 22's. We average 6000 - 7000 rounds each for a 2 1/2 day hunt. We get bored shooting the close one and see who can make the longest shot. Right now I have the record. First place is 469yds. Second place is also held by me, 402yds and it is on viedo. Curt has third at 379yds. We do a lot of our shooting at 200yds to 250 yds.

Catch you later,

That's excellent Ed, how 'bout posting a drop table for me out to 400 yds. or so. Bought a Anschutz M54 specifically for long distance shooting and Weaver T-36X but never did. I believe the 17HRM has less ricochet potential than the slower 22LR bullet, can't have bullets flying all over the place. The 17 Rem., 204 Ruger and .223 with a SX or Berger Varmint bullet is just great! Red Mist. Not that you're missing any of this, I have the rifles & now's the time to use them.......r in s.
