Consider using a solid spitzer; Barnes sells a .284/100gr. solid spitzer with a BC of .343. George P.S. The .17s really shine as fur-getters. Your 7mm-08 is a bit on the large side

George: For a New Yourk City!!! fellow, you are wise beyond your geographical limitations. If you are into fur preservation, the 17 Rem is the kite to fly. As good 22 caliber with a 55 grain FMJ would be a great second place. 7/08 and fur preservation is an oxymoron, unless maybe with the 120 grain Solid by Barnes, but it is a might spendy for that application. A good substitute on something with that thin of hide would be a Sierra Match bullet or equivalent. it at least won't open up and will pass right thru and give you good long range if that is what you are looking for. Good luck, Cheers and Good shooting seafire

It's just too much bullet and TOO fragile. Any way you look at it your going to blow the hell out of them. If your worried about ricochet, I'd look for another gun. If ricochet is really not a problem, load up a medium velocity hunting bullet and be happy with one inch exits. With the varmint type bullets, they'll blow up all right, but they'll also push through and provide a gaping exit.

Looking for a varmint bullet for my 7-08. Thinking about the 120grAMax @ 3150fps and the 110grTNT @ 3250fps. In an ideal situation, I want a bullet that will not have a blowup entry or exit (meaning pass throughs would be okay if small or small fragments) on coyotes (I want the fur), but I want it to come apart and not ricochet on a miss. seafire, There are plenty of four-legged 'furbearers' in NYC; the rats! Unfortunately, no one's permitted to shoot them (or the pigeons or the feral cats and dogs). George

George, it was funny, but in high school,, my younger brother use to snipe at squirrels out side his upstairs room's window with a BB gun. He actually use to kill quite a few of them, and then would bring them in an skin them and eat them. ( NO Mortie is not my brother, LoL) I am sure that was illegal, but the BB gun making no noise, no one noticed. In college, I went down to NO Ga outside of Chattanooga Tenn for two summers and worked at a service station a relative of mine had opened when he retired from the military back in 1971. A couple of the local " hicks" ( these guys were hicks, even by Georgia standards!) that worked at one of the service stations use to go up to the dump in Chattanooga at night, with 22s with small flashlights taped under the barrel with electrical tape. They would shoot rats in the dump. Funny thing was, that you would shoot one, and a few moments later, you'd hear noise in the same direction, and shine the light back over where you shot the first rat, and another one or two would be chewing on him already. Guess that is where I got my love for shooting a cannibal one eating another dead one. Takes any guilt or pity I may have for shooting them, right out of my system.
