Andy Mass22-250 Ackley Improved 1 in 8 twist loads
I have just put together a 22-250 AI with a 1 in 8 twist border barrel.
Does anyone have a similar tool and any recommended loads for this twist rate.
I intend to use heavier bullets for longer range varminting in England. The rifle is giving .3 moa groups with fireform loads of 34g vit 140 under a 60 g sierra hollowpoint.Tragectory at the moment is disapointing with this load. Ideas please?

sscoyoteThat ought to be awesome with the 68 or 69er's, or 75 A-Max at long-range. I believe there's been something in Varmint Hunter mag. about it (800-528-4868). Should be able to use 220 Swift loading data for it, but you'd better check on that. If i'm right about it John Antanies has definitely had some info. on a 220 Swift using the 75 A-Max in VH.

PecosI use a 1-9 twist and load 42 grains of RL 19 behind a 75 grain amax. Works quite well for me.

Dear Andy Mass,
Why bother? I know of a chap who has an old sako smokepole far less fancy than yours, shoots v flat out to 350yd too! I believe his cost 190 but was only in normal .22/250 go figure!!!
Have a nice day!

Andy MassSR as you will no doubt be aware, your smokepole sako does shoot - a little, however, it is not a bespoke item built my AJM Custom Rifles and is not in the same league as your peashooter.Perhaps a challenge is laid down? AM

desparrAndy,
You asked if anyone had something similar, how about an AI .220 Swift?
In a 30" 1:7 Border, it uses 44grs of N560 to push 90gr JLKs at 3,350 and 46grs of N165 to push 80gr Bergers at 3,500fps+.
Scaling back the charges accordingly to suit your AI 22-250 should give you velocities maybe 150fps less. Your 1:8 may not suit the 90grs JLKs tho'.
Try it in F-class sometime.
Cheers,
Des.

Andy MassThanks, the 220 AI sounds very interesting, it wasn't built by a very nice chap from Parton Castle Douglas, was it?
I have just recieved Redding S Dies through post so am now able to start proper load development. I will be using 80g A max and Berger vlds to start off. Do you have any problems with bullet fragmentation thru over spin at these velocities, I have heard that 1-7 can be a tad quick?

Andy MassIt should read 75g Amax - before anyone points out my deliberate mistake!
