Has anybody shot the HSM brand ammo with Calhoun bullets. How do they shoot are they worth buying.

Also looking at the Black Reman. ammo in the blue box with the 40 V-max.

Remington has something they are calling the Accu-tip round. It seems to be exactly the same a the Hornady Varmint express round. All the tech info is the same. Does anyone have info on this.

I normally reload all my shells, but this trip came together so fast, plus I had to buy Wink that new Cooper. Also the volume of shells I anticipate to shoot it is not feasible for me to handload that many rounds so quick. I do plan on saving all the brass and restuffing them for next springs return engagement.

So what I am asking from the 3 choices above what should I do. If someone has another idea let me know about it.

Look into Black Hills ammo.
They sell New and Remanufactured Ammo, and offer many bullet styles, weights and manufactures.
It is impossible to guess what cartridge would work best in Your rifle, so what ever you end up buying will be a crapshoot.

Good Luck

The 223 Winchester USA ammo in their 45gr loading is usually a great shooter and priced right.
Out of my Cooper, it is a steady 3/4" (5 shots) performer. Not as good as my reloads, but not shabby.
We pay $10.46 for a 40 round box here in TX, and some WalMarts (not all) has it similary priced.
Gives ya great brass for reloading.

Hi, Montana

I have used Black Hills Reman. .223 (Blue Box) 40gr for years and for factory round, it is the most accurate I have ever used. I checked velocity a few times and always over 3,700fps.
They use Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets instead of Hornady V-max.

Roll EyesFYI ! In two different Varmint rifles yesterday, Black Hills 68 grain ,moly, match ammunition and 69gr. Norma diamond, moly match ammunition were test fired. Both were within 2900 to 3025 fps. The Black Hills was 2" at 100 yds ,both rifles. The Norma was better than MOA both rifles.

The hooker!!!

The Norma box clearly states that this ammo is loaded by the US manufacturer Black Hills. I guess the question is ; Why the difference ? bewilderedroger

My new CZ 527 American seems to really like the Black Hills blue box ammo best with either the 50gr V-max or 55gr Soft point or the 45gr Winchester white box ammo. These are all relatively cheap to shoot. I haven't started loading for my .223 yet

I purchased a box of the HSM 42gr Calhoon and a box of the BLack Hills (blue box) 40gr v-max.

The test target that came with my Cooper showed a one hole group (3 shots).

After sighting the gun in, I got down to business and this Cooper is flat out amazing. I was able to duplicate the one hole group with the HSM ammo. In fact during the sighting in process it shot in the same hole and caused me to think I had missed the whole target.

The HSM shoots better than the Black Hills (Blue Box). The Black Hills shoots one big hole, the HSM justs puts one right behind the other. Plus the HSM can be purchased for .38 ea in lots of 1000. Not sure I can reload them much cheaper.

I am sold on these Cooper rifles completely awesome!!! Looking to buy another in 6.5 x 284
