what do you guys think about this as a long range coyote and ground hog thumper. i think it would fit the bill nicely. i have a .17 hmr for really close work, a .22-250 for 100 to 400 yards, i am missing a 500 to 600 yard cartridge and this might be the ticket. i have a .243 but i also have the funds for a new gun and wonder what you guys think about this caliber......blake

p.s. i really like the .243 but it is really my future wifes kick around gun and she wont let me change anything on. ie the barrel and stock she likes it the way it is...

What is the advertised velocity?

Remember that a .257 Roberts +P: 117gr. @ 2780fps
.25-06 Remington: 115gr. @ 3060fps

Brass, ammo, and loading data for the above are ubiquitous. Will you be able to say the same for the .25 WSSM?

the .25 wssm is advertised as the .25-06 in a short action. it is the only one in the wssm line up taking on a long action cartridge. if the velocity is in the neighborhood of 3000 to 3100 fps that will suit me fine. i reload, so ataining the velocities should not be a problem. i also am not worried about the cost of the components because there are plenty of bullet makers in the 1/4 bore market. the only thing i worry about a little is the brass, but if i buy them in bulk i should be okay....

Besides you can always make WSSM brass out of WSM brass. Works fine. Lawdog

Blake,

It's really too early for us to know much about the cartridge. The case capacity is there to hit pests hard for sure.

So much new stuff has come out that my head is spinning. I like new stuff but we have had so many in the last couple of years.

I can get 3940 fps with 75 gr. Vmax in 257 Roberts Ackley if I don't care about brass life.
The 25WSSM would not bring allot of new capablilty to me.
