Here's the nest on my buddy's ranch in Bakersfield CA. Two chicks successfully raised by their parents and a couple of us guys who leave alot of ground squirrel and jack rabbit carcasses on the ground for them.

I first saw a bald take a salmon in 1972, near Tacoma.

Now one can see balds out the window while washing dishes in any house near the water in Seattle.

Remarkable come back.

Golden eagles are harder to spot.
Is it an immature bald or a golden?

They are Goldens just fledged. Both of their parents have been around for over 3 years and are fully mature Goldens. This is the second clutch that they've raised on the ranch.

The parents will actually sit on the hillsides as we're shooting varmints and fly down to pick up the carcasses when we drive off.

The DFG officer told us that they usually nest near water but since they had such a good food source they nested there. He also said that most times the older/bigger fledgling will push the smaller one out of the nest to die if there is not enough food.

In Southern Oregon in April, we had bald eagles mature and immature, a turkey vulture, and a goshawk feeding on the ground squirrels we shot.

We saw a bald run off the vulture, but my guess is that a golden could run off the bald.

Here is the ranch with the balds and vultures:

Gidday Guys,

Gee Whizz, That is one huge bird or a very small deer. Was it a roe deer or a mouse deer. I have seen mouse deer in ther bush in Singapore and on the Malay penninsular that are about the size of a rabbit.

This looked a bit bigger but it was still something to see.

Happy Hunting

Hamish
