Old Elk HunterYesterday
It was musty, very musty, in the bathroom chamber, but when you wake up from hibernation, the urge to go is
great. Whew, glad that's done. I'm hungry and the dried grasses in the food chamber just don't look appetizing.
Time to go topside and see if there is any snow left. Climbing up the long passageway and over the debris
that came in over the winter I could smell the warmth of the sun as it made the dirt more aromatic. I can even
smell some fresh green growth. Damn that sunlight is bright. But the rocks feel warm. Finally, someplace to
lay out and get my belly warm. Easing out on the big flat rock I look around and see snow on the Cascades in
the distance. I'm glad I built my den here amongst the rocks next to the alfalfa field. Food, protection,
and now sun! Well before I completely relax I'll make a trip down to the creek to cure my drymouth. That little
climb reminded me that I am out of shape after that long sleep. I guess I will just stretch out on this rock
and enjoy the sun. No hawks in the sky and no coyotes in the field. Should be safe enough. I did see a glint
off something on the other side of the field. Must be my eyes adjusting to the sunlight. Oh, that warm rock
feels good this early in the spring. I can hear the bugs moving about and see the lazy clouds passing over head.
This is one fine day. I think I even hear bees buzzing about. No, it sounds more like a hornet to me.
The 40 grain Bt hit its mark and confirmed for the rockchuck that it was indeed a hornet, A 22 Hornet. The old
elk hunter cycled the bolt on the CZ527 and counted another confirmed kill. Yes, it is going to be a nice spring
day.

We Americans were tired of being thought of as dumb, by the rest of the world. So we went to the polls in November 2008 and removed all doubt.....let's not do it again in 2012 please.
