I agree that "in general" a higher pitched squeal is best for bobcat calling.

I have had good luck with a couple of Sceery calls. One is a cottontail rabbit call and the other is one that you can vary the sound on by biting the reed in different locations.

In any event, a higher pitched sound seems to work better on cats than a plain old jack rabbbit sound.

The biggest difference in calling bobcats versus coyotes is the length of time they take to come in. They are much more cautious and come in slowly. They tend to sit out there and look for a while rather than come on in like a coyote.

I am looking for the best call for bobcat. I have heard you want a higher pitch/ squeal for them?. Would that be a cottontail call?. If you can recommend one let me hear it. thanks Bryan

I would agree to the higher pitch. I also like to call softer than I do for coyote. I use a crit'r call and primos rodent call and woodpecker call. I have been successful with the rabbit distress tuned to a higher pitch, I make my own reeds from a kit and tune myself. Best thing to remember is move slow and quiet into the area you call and don't move once you call. If you have to move your hands to your mouth I cover my hands and arms with camo cloth to break up the movement because cats can see every little movement you make. Remember when you see a cat it has probably been watching you for 5 to 10 minutes already.
None of this is hard and fast but works for me.
Good luck

Where do you get the reed kits? I've been thinking of turning out my own calls, but haven't figured out where to get the reeds. TIA- Sheister

Go to www.critrcall.com and look under accessories. You can get precut reeds or sheets of reed material(mylar) and cut your own and tune the calls to your own ear. Good luck

Tally Ho for a open reed mouth Sceery rodent for closed reed. For my JS I still have had best luck with Jack CT101 (low volume). I find that most cats I shot came to the sound to see what is going on. I shoot very few that came in on a run like a coyote. Therefore I just want to get them in range. Jack has done it for me. I did most of my hunting the last 6 years along 395 north in CA.
