I think Caldwell made the big bag I have, but I forget exactly what they called it.

I'm Ricochet on a boatload of fora, but Rimfire Central's one I haven't yet made it onto.

Ricochet,

In an old issue of Precision Shooting, I saw an ad for a gizmo called the Recoil Bag by Trappers Output. Essentially, it is a bag that you lay on the bench and stick a sangbad into it or a 25 pound shell shot bag. It has adjustable straps that go around the butt of the rifle and add an instant 25 pounds. The company seems to be out of busines, but it looks easy enough to make. Caldwell also make this thing called the Lead Sled which is a rifle shooting rest with a tray to add up to 100 pounds of sandbags.

BTW, are you the same Ricohet that is on the RimfireCentral forum?

Thanks,
Kory

Kory: I am a helpful kind of guy! I would like to help you! And seeings I am halfway between the Cooper factory and your house - I volunteer to go to the factory pick up your Rifle and take it home with me for a few days and then I will bring it to your house! LOL!
I promise I won't mount a scope on it and shoot it much if at all!
I am really just jealous. Those are beautiful and well performing Rifles.
I have had my custom 17 MachIV for about 8 years now and its a sensational Varminter - from Coyotes and Fox on down to Prairie Dogs and Ground Squirrels (and everything in between!
I have a superb load for when you get to that point! Between now and Christmas be on the look out for 17 caliber gear like a 17 caliber cleaning rod, powder funnel, bore sighting spud, primer flash hole deburring tool and etc!
I hope your Rifle will shoot as good as I am sure it will look!
Good for you.
Hold into the wind

Kory, CONGRATULATIONS on figuring out which gun to get!!! That one ought to do it!!!! One of these days.....no probably not! I'll just get access to the shop and do it myself!! Probably won't be near as fancy a stock on it though!! Have fun and post pics for all of us to see!! It should "ride the bags" : quite well!!! GHD PS: Try not to go from loading 30 caliber stuff straight to the 17's during the same loading session!!! MASHED FINGERS CAN HAPPEN!!!! GHD

Hi GHD,

Right before your post, I was doing a google search for the Recoil Bag hoping that Trapper's Output was still around, and I stumbled into Uncle Bad's page by accident. Looks very promising. How does it hold the rifle in place? It is mostly friction?

I also found something similar at:

http://www.dog-gone-good.com/

Also, Ulta Light Arms also makes something like the Recoil bag:

Things are looking up and my future in long distance shooting is looking encouraging!

Thank you everyone for the support!

Regards,
Kory

At the bottom of the posting screen is the underlined word "Image". Click the word, a pop-up window appears, and then paste the address of your picture in the blank line, no heavy bracket stuff.

Kory, I'm going to attempt to post a picture of my wife with the Cooper 21 .17 Mach IV Varmint I use to consider mine till I let her shoot it. The two rodents she'd just dispatched with it would have probably liked it better if she wasn't such a good shot and the rifle were less accurate. Kory, What Ricochet mentioned about the bag I have encountered! An UNCLE BUD'S 15.5 inch BENCH BAG filled with sand weighs about 42lbs! I can lay my 25-06 SENDERO in one of them and shooting off the cab of the truck while standing in the bed, can see the hits out past 250! We're talking a boatload more recoil than the 17MachIV or the .204!! If it was the SAVAGE VLP, REMINGTON VLS configuration in that caliber with the same set-up, you wouldn't feel a thing I don't think! However, tomorrow I'll ask one of my shooting buddies, who happens to be an opthamologist and only does work "behind the eye".....ie detached retinas what he thinks! GHD
