Bobby TomekIt was set up. There are a number of factors that prove this is a staged photo -- not the least of which is common sense and a knowledge of the animal(s).
Outdoor Life was duped, but that's nothing new...

A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because they don't make a 46."

Read the description of the event and study the photo. The photo and description are completely consistent, plausible and not at all inconsistent with coyote behavior under the circumstances as described by the author and photographer.

papapaulWhen i was a boy, my Dad and his friends hunted foxes from airplanes. Piper cub with skis. Northern Minnesota c1955. Anyway, they would get a hangar full of frozen foxes. You could pose them just about anyway you wanted.

FjoldFrom the picture description it says:
"They called for 15 minutes and brought in the pack of coyotes that they couldn't see until they were 20 yards away."
But if you look at the picture the guy is standing out in the open with very few small grass clumps around him.
Is their eyesight that bad?

MoorepowerCoyotes sometimes get so engrossed in the prey that they don't notice the hunter. That being said, this looks a little, "funny".
