does anyone make an adapter to use as a rest for the common spotting scope or camera tripod?

MTM does.

MTM Spot & Shoot

I made my own by cutting a 2X4 about 6" long and drilling a hole in the bottom where I epoxied a 1/4"NF nut.
(same as the stud on a camera tripod)
Take good thick, commercial loop pile carpet and bend it into an "M" shape.
Staple the middle down and staple the ends to the ends of the 2X4 and you have a durable rest.

Got the idea from my step-Dad. He's been using one for thirty years.

I think that he would have to tap it 1/4 NC (1/4x20) not 1/4 NF (1/4x28).

You are more than likely right about that being 1/4-20(NC) and not 1/4-24(NF).

It was a while ago and I just went out to the garage and got one that fit and epoxied it in.
My gararge looks like a hardware store (sometimes and EXPLOSION in a hardware store)

Thanks for the correction. I must be getting old...

On another note, my step-Dad has been using his home-made rest for over 40 years. Long before there were ANY commercial rests.

We sure have it tough nowadays. Soooo many choices on WHAT TO BUY. Eeker

When he was varminting, you had to MAKE everything. thumb
