I’m looking for a short, handy rifle in .243 for coyote hunting out to 200 yards. I’ve narrowed it down to two Remington youth models: The Model Seven and the new Model 700 SPS. They both have similar weight, barrel and overall lengths, but is there a reason to prefer one over the other? Differences as far as I can tell: 1.The SPS seems to have a heavier barrel, while the Model Seven has a tapered, thinner barrel. 2.The Model Seven has a slightly different action than the 700 SPS. 3.The Model Seven has optional iron sights on some models. Can anyone speak to the differences between these two models? Specifically what’s the difference between the two actions? Bottom line, which one would be better for 200 yard coyote shooting? More info on both at: http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/youth/model_seven.asp http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/youth/model_700_sps.asp Appreciate any insights, Hunter 308

If I was looking for a truck gun for whacking coyotes I'd get a 700 SPS stainless in .223 Rem. Then poke around Ebay for a 6x Leupold compact.

Don't think there is a nickles worth of difference, they are both short actions. You might look at the Model Seven CDL in 22-250 http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_r.../model_seven_CDL.asp

A 50-50 deal for the most part, however; I have encountered a couple of model 7's that were pretty fussy about the load that they would shoot with.
