I decided to change this post to a slightly different question. I've been thinking about this 135gr bullet because I ordered it as a custom-made load. It shoots well: 1MOA at 2600fps. I believe it is meant for the lower fps delivered by te 30cal handguns. This means it's no good at the higher speeds my WinMag offers.

But that's on big game. Would it give the big red cloud varminters desire? As I said before, I'm aware I won't be shooting 100s of rounds like the heavy-barrel 223s.

Gonzo; Stay within the the parameters of your original question! [Mad]
You're talking a whole different story now [Confused]
By changing the specific bullet in your ORIGINAL question you totally changed everything! [Eek!]
My ORIGINAL reply that previously occupied this spot no longer applies!
Forum Leader: Feel free to delete this post!!

P.S. Gonzo since your questions are focussed on Sierra bullets, why don't you call or E-mail them!

Can you recommend something that will produce the "vaporization" so many of us are looking for?

Would the Sierra 135 ProHunter do better? It's meant for 30cal hanguns. I believe it's supposed to perform well on deer at no more than 2400fps.

I interpret that to mean that 3000fps would make a nice red cloud?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hornady makes a 110gr V-MAX bullet in .308 diameter. This bullet is likely to give you the red mist that you are looking for.
The 168gr Matchking has a very heavy jacket. Some shooters kill deer with the Matchkings! [Eek!]

I never could get those 110 & 125 gr bullets to shoot well in my 30 calibres.

If you can get the Nosler 125 Ballistic Tip going a bit over 3K that should do what you're looking for, without cooking the Win Mag's barrel...

Try 75 grains of IMR 4350, worked up to from about 72 grains...

I think you'll find the 75 grain load shoots well, and will clock around 3200 to 3400 fps from your rifle...

green788,

Thanks for the recipe. I'll try it next time I reload. If you've got any other recipes to share, I'm all ears.

I've really enjoyed your posts in other forums here. I get the sense that you're an engineer or something like that. You're process is meticulous and methodical. Quite fascinating.
