I have a fox pro game caller with a bobcat in heat option. Was wondering if it works year round on bobcats or just when they are in heat.

IMHO, you will have much better success using distress sounds, especially "busy" ones. For bobcats, I recommend that you call each stand for 30 minutes. Don't "overlook" them. Callers have a tendency to only look "way out there". A cat may slip in and be sitting 15 yards in front of you or off to one side. Keep a sharp eye peeled at all distances near and far. Look for a patch of white.

Thanks Bob. I just talked to a Foxpro rep the other day and he told me that the bobcat in heat would probably only work during the time when they are in heat. The other problem I'm having, is when I'm trying to call a bobcat and a coyote shows up. Do I shoot the coyote and keep calling or let it go, in hopes a bobcat will come in.

If I am trying to get someone on a bobcat I will let the coyotes and foxes go. If I am just out predator calling I take all comers. Call for 30 minutes and stay focused at all distances and directions.

A couple of yotes is a nice consolation prize.

I've shot a number of multiples. Just cause you shoot once or twice, don't mean something else ain't coming in.
As Bob says, be patient, stay focused (and still).
If you have a decoy, use it as it will draw the animal's attention away from you. Use cover/ shade to your advantage. Elevation helps also.
Many times I will place my call and decoy thirty to forty yards out and sit in an elevated ground blind or on the side of a rise. If you have a light ground blind that you can employ, that works too.
Also, it doesn't hurt to be in an area where there are bobcats.

Good advice.

A couple of years ago, I was calling a favorite bobcat area. Had call set up about 40 yards down a sendero and a bobcat came out of the heavy underbrush. I dropped him in the two track and within a minute of the shot, a coyote ran out of the same trail the cat emerged from looking over his shoulder in my direction. The coyote tripped over the bobcat, rolled and stopped just a few feet past the bobcat, looking back in my direction. He shouldn't have done that! Smiler

Yep, too many folks jump up and do the "Happy Dance" as soon as they shoot the first one.

HM-That is a really nice bobcat!!

Thanks for the advice guys. I was told that once you shoot one coyote, immediately switch to the coyote distress call to bring in more coyotes. Has anyone tried this?

Works often enough to be worthwhile.

These two are laying where they fell. The male came in w/female hot on his heels. Tried barking him to a stop but he was so intent on the decoy had to shoot him on the run. The female cut into the brush before I could get on her, but crossed the sendero about 200 yards out. She paused briefly and I hurried the shot and missed. She jumped into the brush and I hit the kiyi. She immediately came back out and ran toward the call and her mate.

Definately give the Kiyi a try, you'll like it.

hm
