Rabbit distress & woodpecker distress work best for me. Haven't had much luck with the howls in my part of the country. Don't underestimate rodent distress sounds when they get close. Many times when a coyote hangs up and you cannot get a shot, he can be coaxed in w/lip-squeaks or rodent squeakers. Lots of predator hunting information here: Predator Masters And here: Texas Predator Posse Regards, hm 2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

J, I'm still a novice. I live in South Central KY. I have had some success with mouth calls. I plan to really get at coyote after modern gun also. I just purchased "Calling all coyote's" by Randy Anderson. Looks like a lot of good tips. He uses howls and a variety of other mouth calls. Hope you're successful. LC

BEWARE. Predator hunting is extremly addictive. It leades to wildcatting, high dollar everything. It will consume your thoughts. Worse than a highschool boy chasing girls. I like soft calling. I use locator howls when scouting. We mostly hunt foxes, prey sounds work well, pup in distress sounds also work really well. I think alot depends on the animal. Some nights, pup in distress brings them running, other night nadda, same with prey sounds. I don't think you have to be the best caller, set up is the most important 2nd by animals that get little or no pressure. Oddball sounds seem to help. Groundhog in distress, javelina, baby piglets. Do not be afriad to experiment. Just like fishing sometime the bite all day and sometime they just flip you the bird. Good luck, most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Call www.allpredatorcalls.com They will recommend, and install, calls that will be effective in your area on any of the Electronic Callers they sell. I purchased a Foxpro FX3 and they were outstanding in assisting a clueless Varmint beginner like myself. Good Luck!
