Anybody try these .19 & .20cal convertions that James Calhoon sells. He is a bullet maker from near here (Havre MT.) I'm kinda thinking the .19/223 is a hell of a Pdog rifle, but have not shot one yet. I know some of my custimers from the Big Sandy area are big fans so mabe I can use one for a weekend. I love his bullets. I have used his 30-36 gr bullets in a K-Hornet and 223. I think the idea is neat but seems the 204 Ruger has filled the place of the 19/223. I have a 204 on order that I hope to take to South Dakota this fall.

Yes I have also used many of his bullets. His 52 gr Round bout tail gives me .5"groups of ten at 100 yards out of my #1 22-250, and damn does it make a mess out of P dogs! I was just thinking a 19 might be fun, but you are probly right in the long run it might be just as easy and cheeper to have a Ruger 204. I don;t have a rifle to rebarrel in any of his cal. So if buying a new or used one. Maybe just buy a 204. I have the Badger, Hornet and the 19-223. The Badger is in one of Jims CZ527's, the Hornet is in a Contender Carbine, and the 19-223 is a Switch Barrel Model 10 Savage in 223 AI also. Really like all 3 rounds, but my favorite is the Badger. All 3 print under .5 in accuracy. Very clean rounds to shoot. As a test I shot 180 rounds through the Hornet between cleanings. Probably could have shot more but I was starting to feel guilty. I previously used a 204 Ruger that now sits lonely in the rack. I'd hate to think about life without my 19's. Try Seafires Blue Dot loads with Jims 52 GR bullets in your 22-250. They shoot great and I can keep the speed down. Very little heat. By the way Jim was the first to work with Blue Dot powder some 12 years ago. He has a great web Site. It's even got my picture on it with my Badger when I picked it up. Blue Dot is excellent in the 19's also. Makes 'em sound like a pop gun with great performance. Best wishes, Bill

MT, go over to saubier.com as they have over 2 dozen regular posters who own rifles and are big fans of James Calhoun. I've shot a good number of his 22 cal pills and they are lights out on varmints James' rifles and cartridges are very accurate and awesome in the vermin fields cb <*)))>{

Is there any reason to fear using his quick silver (?) coated bullets in conjunction with regular non coated bullets? Much in the same way as not mixing moly and non moly bullets. I have some of his double hollow point bullets for my triple duece loaded by The Hunting Shack. Unfortunaly I haven't been able to see there performance on p-dogs yet but I know they are hell on yotes. I too have been shooting Calhoun bullets in 22 caliber for years. I just picked up a Ruger in 22 Hornet that does not want to shoot as well as I expect it to... may just be a good canidate for a Calhoun rebarrel kit I am one gun away from being happy

I've tried his 17 cal bullets but haven't been thrilled with them in my usual Blue Dot loads. I usually moly everything in that caliber and the Silver coated bullets sure gum up my bore in ways I don't see with others. When accuracy goes and a good cleaning is needed - it's really needed! Like, "can't hit an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper at 100" needed. I still have a few hundred of the 28 grain, .172s that I tried to re-moly over the silver coating, mostly out of frustration. Never got around to trying them, so I can't say whether the moly "took" or not. Mark "Greatness without Grace is mere Vanity" - Hank the Cowdog
