I need 1 9 twist so thats savage at 1- 9 1/4, this gun will second as a long range water jug shooter in summer.. the only two guns in .243 repeater they have that i can find is the low profile which is stainless, 10 lbs, 26 inch barrel, laminated stock, everything is right except kind of flashy for preditor hunting.. the 12 fv is 8 1/2 pounds, black stock, blued, 26 inch barrel and of course 243.. the fv is 200 dollars cheaper, and not flashy, but doesnt have the wight id like for bipod shooting? What say you all.. (Savage has button rifling, and im going to stick with that, if you have another gun in that price range that has button rifling add it to the list.. but as always all comments welcome.. thanks dave.

. My ideal is the Ruger M77mkII VT in 243 ,, .......I wish they made it in 260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmoor or Grendell or some moderate velocity 6.5 Round .. I just prefer Ruger rifles and I really like the VT .. I would prefer the Savage Varmint to the Remington tho ... I really like their trigger and I know they are just as accurate ...

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

For a coyote rifle, I would choose the 12fv, precisely because it is not flashy. However, if this is going to be a walking/calling rifle, I like a lot less weight.

How about the Savage Predator Hunter in .243. I just bought one and I would marry it if it had tits.

the predator is the same ( or close to it) but lighter, camo, and shorter barrel, good choice, but not for me as im going to streach out to 1000 yards in the summer.. I have a 6mm for that now, and it is very picky about loads and the first shot shoots high and to the right, and its a wood stock that tends to move slightly.. so its time to move up to a stabilized type stock.. next the ruger is a great rifle and i respect both of your choices. the ruger i love the dark stainless, if it had button rifling i would go for it, it does have 1 in 9 twist, so if it can get up to 3000fps with a .400 bal coeficeint it would do 1000 yards.... So one for the heavier, and two for the lighter,, Im getting ready to bite on something tho.. dave

The .243 should get well over 3000fps with a .4 BC bullet. A 6BR will do that with an 87 grain v-max and a 10 twist stabilizes them.

The VLP would be my choice, paint it if it's too flashy.

I just looked at the specs, and the 6mm br looks tempting, and would be great if it was offered in 1-9 twist, 1-12 would probably not stabilize a 87 grain bullet, especially out there a ways.. I cant see shooting a 6mm and using a light bullet. But im glad you pointed out that model, it deserves another look. What i like about it is if i decide to get another barrel and have a lilja barrel put on, it would probably work good for that with thier target action... Whats the longest bullet would you guess the 1 12 twist would stabilize in a 6mm br.. thanks dave

The 12 twist 6BR should stabilize 80 grain bullets. They put an 8 twist in the 6BR F-class rifle if you are interested. I don't know why they didn't offer it in the LRPV.

12f class 6mmbr 30 inch barrel,, whooee, what a chunk of rifle!! If i could pack it out to the yotes, theyed be toast!! with scope and bipod it would probably weigh in at 16-17 pounds.. Ill probably need the 12 f for close walks and the 12 vs for longer jaunts, ill definitly need 2.. Big Grin dave

An ugly woman with tits is still ugly; same goes for ugle rifles with nice scopes. However, in the end beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Big Grin

I have 6 Savage/Stevens rifles;two are 12fv, one in 22-250 and one a re-barrel in 220Swift. fFor a varmint rig I don't think you can go wrong with the 12fv. Both of mine shoot 1/2 moa at 300 yds and lights out prairie dog out to 450+yds.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!

I don't know about Savage, but I love my Browning A Bolt Varmint Stalker in .243 wssm. I'm loading 70gr Nosler Btips chrono'd at 3750fps. That's even a grain and a half short of the max load of Win 760. Great coyote load!

Just picked up a camoed, stainless Tikka 3 lite in a 243. Nice weight for a carry rifle at just over 6 lbs. I was going to go with the savage predator, but found it a bit heavy. Similar to my two Savage 12's in 204. So far accuracy has been excellent in the T3 lite with factory fodder. Can't wait do see what it can do with some "roll your owns".

You can usually glue some lead weights into the bottom of those synthetic stocks to add a little weight.
