Coulda saved yourself 3-4 hundred dollars off that price if you bought a savage. Probably would have had better groups too.

Saving money was never an option for me when it comes to firearms. Just ask my wife.

Nice rig.

I will be mounting the same scope on a Cooper 21 in 223. I have the target dot model.
What rings and bases did you use? What hight?

TASCO...... See, now then you would be sacrificing quality/performance. Leupold is definately the better choice there. Very good judgement.

Mr.Big.
Glad you didn't waste the trigger and other fine gear on a savage. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I had a friend that doesn't have a lot of money look at mt custom 223 the other day. His response?
"I'm going to sell all of my crap guns and do it right this time.
He did .

Nice stuff may not shoot any better than a savage, but at least you'll look good. [Razz]

Man! I swear it seems like Savage is the only company that makes accurate rifles. Atleast youd think so listening to most on this site. Seems like most members own stock in Savage or are employed there. Sorry Ill stick to my Remington VS. The thought of a Savage and a Tasco may appeal to some but not me. Remington/Leupold is my choice.

Mr. Big, Nice set up!!! I find it amazing that Remington still sells millions of firearms a year for a company that makes crap as most would have you to believe. Must be the advertising. HAHA
Im also a DIEHARD Mathews bow fan and on the archery sites they say thats why Mathews is the #1 seller of compound bows. Well that is what everone that hates Mathews says. They only are #1 due to their aggressive ads. Well ads may hook a buyer the first time but advertising does not promote return buying or customer satisfaction. Ive owned MANY Mathews bows and Remington firearms. Ive just NEVER had the need to switch.

I could tell you how great my Savage is, but it would sound like I'm green with envy, and I don't want you to get the right impression of me.
Mr. Big, thats a good looking rig you got there. What Caliber is it?

If you are happy with it, then it is money well spent. It really is that simple.

Mr. Big: The money is only wasted if you spent it and ain't happy. Sounds like you're a happy camper to me.

As one of those "unsophisticated" Savage guys, though, you guys have put me on the defensive. I could get a new Savage 12 BVSS in .308 which would come with an honest-to-goodness laminated stock (not some piece of plastic with pieces of aluminum stuck in it), a very nice "AccuTrigger" and personal experience and posts on this forum indicate out of the box 1/2" accuracy. Then I could have installed a $375 Sightron scope (which, also from personal experience, will do anything I need to do). Then I would have several hundred bucks still left in my "gun" account ... PRICELESS! I do have limited funds to spend on "my hobby" and make every effort to get the most enjoyment for every dollar. My enjoyment comes from the results, not necessarily from the brand names.

I call it different strokes for different folks. No need to call each other names or point fingers. Let's just enjoy our sport and one another, even in our differences.

I read Varmint Al's web site and got a Tasco World Class Plus 10x40x50 scope for $210 from SWAFA.

It lasted 5 trips to the range before disintegrating.

I sent the scope and money to Tasco and 6 months later they sent me a replacment.

I got $100 credit at a gun store for the new in box scope. At the same place I got a Leupold 6.5x20x40 boosted to 13x40x40 in exchange for an unfired Bushmaster bull pup.

I learned that I lost more than money with a Tasco. I lost my time.

I must admit, till now I have been a cheapskate. I am going on my first p-dog trip.I have the Remington 700 vdl and I had a Tasco on it. The guys im going with shamed me into getting good optics. I took the plunge and got the varilux III
with mildots. That is my .223. I also just got a Savage tactical in .308 with a Weaver 4x14 grand slam. The Remington is prettier but boy do I like the holes the .308 makes!!!
You do get what you pay for. I had to rezero the Tasco EVERY time I shot.....
I am also taking my 10-22 and my ranch rifle with a 4 power Burris.

I consider that flawed logic because there are exceptions to every rule. NEVER have I felt like Ive "gotten what I paid for" when Ive had to register my vehicles or pay for emmissions and inspection. Or when camp fees keep going up and the quality of campgrounds continually goes down.

Or when I paid $2000.00 for a computer only to find that they sell the same one for $1500.00 down the road. You guys know the feeling, like youve just been had. Its not a warm and fuzzy feeling.

The last scope I bought was a used Weaver steel tube for $15.00. It is clear and functions flawlessly atop my VG $150.00 8mm Mauser. That cost includes $65.00 for the reciever drilled for bases and the bolt turned and my smith did a beautiful job.

The highest price doesnt nessecarily mean youve got the best, and a frugal purchace doesnt always mean its junk.. But that is a nice rig, Mr Big. [Wink]
