Anyone ever tried one of these scope reticles for these smaller vermin?

I drug out a Marlin 17 HMR that needed a scope on it, and the cheap one on it crashed and burned ( a BSA and I won't do one of those again)...

I didn't want to cannabalise another scope from another rifle, and had a Leupold 6 x with a target dot, but thought that is not enough power...

I have a 3 x 9 Leupold with the German # ONE reticle in it.. I have always liked this reticle so I have decided to try it on this rifle...

Anyone ever used one of these style reticles on game that small?

I thought I would try it out to see how it goes...

homerThat BSA offers you almost unlimited adventure into customer service. Send it back for repair. ( Turn up the sound ). coffeeroger

I've always thought either the #1 or even the #4 reticle in a low power scope would be good for calling coyotes at close distances.

I guess it depends on how small the critters are and how far away they are if it will be workable or not.

Might as well give it a shot, it's not like you're out anything to try it.

I wouldn't bother sending the BSA in to repair, just swing it into the trash can and move on.

I've got a cheapie on my 17 HMR too. When it dies, it's going in the trash.

Live and learn I guess.

The BSA scope I have has very clear optics on it, but what has gone south was the target turrents... I guess the recoil of a 17 HMR was more than it can bear...

Roger, as far as an Odessy into the world of bad customer service... I don't need any more experiences.. I have it with our cable company, Charter Cable...

I would love to throw them out of my house, but my wife can not exist without her damn TV... she is married to the damn thing...
CSI and Doctor shows all night, Dancing with the Stars, and all of her home decorating shows..its her friggin social life...

So I have to fight the cable company straightening out their screw ups all the time in billing, and then fight the wife with her complaining that I want to throw the damn jerks out of the house..

The BSA scope is just destined to the Trash Can, or as an example to show people of what NOT to buy...

Seafire, my wife is married to this computer. Only time I get to get on is early morning hours or when she is out of the house. I was thinking of trying BSA scopes but not now. I never tried the #1 or #4. I got a VX2 on my 17 with 3-9 Leupold dot. Works good for me.

I HAD a BSA sweet 17 The optics were absolutely horrible. At 12x it looked like there was milk on the lenses. I just waited for a cheap older Vari-X III to pop up and got a 3.5-10x for $300 which is only $180 more than I spent on the BSA. Lost my A$$ and learned a lesson from buying a BSA. Also clicks were inconsistent.

Seafire, Is the #1 just a post sticking up? I was going through my old scopes the other day to see if I had one for a 44 mag rifle I'm going to buy. I got this old Bushnell 2.5-8 that my cousin had many years ago. He died and I got most of his shooting stuff. This scope has a ring that you turn and it magically makes the fine crosshair have a dark thicker post appear to the center of crosshair. I've never seen one before. I doubt I'll try it on a 44 Mag rifle. Thought of using it for a predator scope. I have to put it on something to test it. It looks like from the adjustment ring on back it is bent down a tad. It doesn't look prefectly straight to my old eyes. Has anyone ever seen one of these multi reticle scopes? I plan to get a #4 low power lighted ret. for next pred. season. I would think the post ret. would be good for small varmints, even this one with fine c.h. and post.

Was over at the range this morning with this scope on a 17 HMR...

actually the only limits are the 3 x 9 power on the Leupold...

at the top of the center post, is as easy to put on the target as a target dot is any day..

the other nice thing about this reticle, is the top half of the scope is totally uncluttered...
no cross hair wire or anything.. field of view was excellent...

the heavy post allows quick target acquisition also..

so it worked well on a stationary target...

real proof will come when I take it out after sage rats in the near future...

I figure this is going to be used for pop can sized targets under 150 to 160 yds..

unlike other guys, I don't try those 'spectacular shots' at stuff at 200 to 250 yds with the 17 HMR...

one of my other 17 HMRs I will try a 4.5 x 14 scope with a Mil dot reticle and see how that does.. ( Buckmaster Scope)...
