Is the 6mm BR a viable cartridge for Varmint hunting?
How does it compare to a 22-250?

won't work at all....bullets will just bounce off and of course being that it is one of the premier BR calibers not much chance you can hit anthing with it either. 58 gr. Vmax 3400-3500 fps compared to a 22-250 shooting a 55gr. Vmax at 3500-3550 fps.....not much difference unless you got tougher prairie dogs than me

Without question the 6mm BR is my prefered varmit
caliber. If I am roaming the fields I use a Remington 788 with a pocket full of magazines.
Not much powder needed for very good velocity.

Outstanding varmint caliber. One of the rifles/calibers I really regret giving up. I have a rifle featured on 6mmbr.com. Go over there and see what is being said.

Johnny: choose the 6mmbr, it will shoot 58 grain V-max at 3600-3800fps with a higher BC then the 22 cal can perform.

Pick a barrel with a 1-8 twist, and use V-max/blitzkings and so on out to 400 yards, then 105 grain A-max out to a 1000 yards. The 1000yard world record is set by a 6mmbr.

Johnny:

I concur, great round, if you don't want to turn necks, have your gunsmith cut a .272 chamber and shoot factory 77gr Lapua out to 400-500 yards and go to the 105-107gr bullets beyond that.

One of my R93 Blaser's is also featured at www.6mmBr.com

Thanks gents for the info so far.

I was after some comparison to the 22-250 as I was told that the 6mm BR would suffer from excessive drop out t 300 yards in comparison to the 22-250. I can't see this if you use a 55 grain head in the 6mm and 22-250 surely the similar velocity and better BC of the 6mm will make this unlikely.
I need a sanity check on this as my thoery and my external ballistic software data seem to think the 6mm will outperform the 22-250.

I shoot a 6mm wildcat that is "shot for shot" the same speed as a 6mmBR. The 58 gr. Vmax has a better BC than a 50 gr. .224" Vmax. My speeds are something like 3400-3450 for a 6mm 58 gr. and fired out of my 22-250 I get about 3650 fps with the 50 gr. .224. The drop is so close out to past 350 yds. corrections are the same.

Yup 6mm BR great caliber. However for the kind of distances we're talking about in practice the 6PPC is its equal in the uk and for a little less powder and bark. I f you can find a good one gor for the pipsqueak every time.
