Hi ,, well after studing the loading manuals , I decided on the 260 Rem for wolf and other fur bearers ... Anyone shot the Barnes 110 gr Banded solid ...How long a barrel do I need to get top book velocities ........................... I mainly chose the 6.5 because of it,s very high BC and the fact that I rteally don,t need to push the bullet over 3000 fps , and a bit slower would be fine ..... Plus 6.5 will be a good round for Caribou , .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

I myself, would consider the 107 grain Sierra match or the 108 Laupa Scenar... Life Member: The American Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Jan 20, 2009.. Your best chance of not making big hole in smaller critters is to use one of the controlled expansion big game bullets. I have used a 100 grain Nosler Partition in a 25-06 on coyotes with good results. It will always make an exit hole but usually about the size of a golf ball. Same with a Partition in a 243. They expand enough enough that they kill well, not like an FMJ.

i would look around for some cheap 6.5x55 military ammo and pull the bullets. hot shot made some 139 grain fmj and you can find some of the milsurp fmj pretty cheap at times. would be less expensive than buying barnes bullets. i doubt the 160 sierras would open up a whole lot on something like a wolf and it would be great on caribou. i shoot a 6.5x55 steyr with a 23.5" barrel. i reckon you could get by with a 20" barrel, but i am no expert. 6.5 is great. mine also likes the 140 partition and the 140 grand slam.
