I'm looking at getting some sort of semi-auto .223 like an Armalite or a Bushmaster. I don't know much about these types of rifles, so I need to learn more. I would prefer one with a match barrel that is going to be very accurate and very reliable. I will be putting a scope on it as well. Can ya'll help me out?

My Dad, my brother and I all own Rockriver AR-15's and they all shoot great. Very good quality and tight actions for production AR's

I second the RRA AR-15's for accuracy, and
fit/finish. I have a RRA 20" Varminter,
that sits on a Armalite National Match lower,
that shoots sub .5 MOA groups. It has never
failed to cycle or to fire.

I have a RRA M4 pre-Ban(16" Hbar) upper,
on a lower, I assembled, and it shoots sub
1 MOA groups, with hand loads. I have never
tried factory loads. I vaporized a rabbit's
head, at 125 yards, using the railing of
the front porch, as a rest...It is accurate.
My wife thought the rifle looked a little
"evil", but she was very happy to see one less
garden muncher running.

You may find a cheaper version of an AR-15,
in another brand, but you won't find one
any more accurate, or reliable, than a
Rock River Arms.

If you really mean accuracy is important. Try
Compass Lake Engineering. They offer several versions of AR 15s. Very accurate. very well constructed. Visit their site.

http://www.compasslake.com

Lots of good info and options there. They are not cheap. But you get what you pay for!

Where can you buy a Rock River Arms AR-15 in Texas?

muck,

Accuracy is fairly important. I plan to use it for some varmint hunting, but mainly for shooting whitetail does in the head out to 150-200 yards.

I would like to try and stay under $1,000 for the rifle by itself.

there are a ton of good ar's out there that will do what you want. Rock river is 1 DPMS another bushmaster another j-p arms another olympic another everybody and his brother are making them today. Putting one together from parts isn't at all hard and does save money;. check ar15.com, or predatormasters.com for a couple more sites

How much would I be looking at if I built one myself and put a 18-20" match stainless bull barrel (if that is available) and a 2 lb. trigger on it?

Well, here's a suggestion, although probably somewhat different than the one you expected.

Buy it now before the incoming class of new Dems are sworn in. You can count on a revival of the "assault weapons" issue in the near future.

Try these guys. Ihave got a few kits and a few other uppers from them. The rifles they sell will shoot 1" MOA or your money back. Give them a call and tell them what you want. They know ARs.

You might want to look at Bushmaster Predator; it has a 20" heavy fluted barrel and handles nicely in the field and comes with BM's 2 stage adjustable match trigger. Have heard of deals aroung $975-1050 but suggested retail is $1300 or so.

Bushmaster Predator

Here is how it looks w/Burris FFII 4.5-14x44 scope.

Can't fault the way it shoots, out of the box, either.

Regards.

I just put a proven Bushmaster AR-15 V-Match upper up for sale in the EE.

For $250 or so for a Rock River lower receiver with their match trigger - you'd be into a good shooting rifle for $750.

I purchased a Bushmaster this Summer. An AR style rifle was on my wish list for 20+ years. I'm not sure what the model's called, it has the collapsable stock, fluted barrel, piccatinney rails, folding sights, etc.. Shoots great, looks cool too.

Go to the web site and look up dealers in your area. My brother is waiting on his .458 SOCOM upper from RRA. It should be very cool!!! He has built two AR-15's from the ground up using a mix of parts. They shoot like no tomorrow but he realy only saved around $80.00 per rifle.

Another vote for the RRA. Love mine, although I am thinking of getting a standard A4 upper for fun and keeping my heavy barrel upper for varmints.
