Keep us posted on the glass bedding. I've got a Bell & Carlson stock on mine and am thinking about haveing it bedded and free=floated.

Good to hear that Sierra 85gr. HPs shoot well in a 6.5x55. I've had extremely good results with the Sierra Game Kings in my 30-06. Somehow doesn't surprise me that they shoot well in the 6.5 as well. What is the rate of twist on that 700 Classic?

Just curious as to why the 95 grain Hornady V Max is your "lease favorite" in the 100grn and under weights. Also, what make / model 6.5x55 are you shooting and what kind of accuracy are you getting with your pet 100 grain Ballistic Tip or Sierra HP loads?

Thanks for the info. Makes sense about the older actions. Thanks also for the link to the Curio & Relic Firearms Forum / Swedish rifle board . I got signed up but had to use id of firstshot1 as firstshot was already taken. Looks like a lot of great info. See ya there sometime.....

Oh by the way....do you use the same ID "pepperbelly" over on the Relic Firearms forums?

Firstshot, I also have a Swede M38.
The warning about not loading to near max is because the M38s and M96s use the '96 Mauser action which is not as strong as the '98 Mauser and later actions. It can't be loaded to the same pressure as the modern actions.
I have a Turk Mauser that I plan on rebarrelling to 6.5x55, making a "Twede". It can be loaded to higher pressure.
As far as accuracy, in the military barrels, the lighter weight bullets may or may not be accurate. The original bullet weight that was designed for the rate of twist was 160gr. They later went with the lighter weight 139gr sniper round since it was more accurate, but the twist rate stayed the same.
Some members of a board I moderate on have had luck with 120gr bullets, but lighter varmint weight bullets may not be as accurate as in a modern barrel.
Here is a link to our Swedish rifle board. If you look around on our forum you will see our reloading page , and a search there will show some very accurate loads for the Swedes.
Let me know if I can help more.
Jim
