Anybody shooting cormorrants on this site?, they are on just about every hunting licence you can buy where I live and there is no limit on how many you can shoot. I know of very few people that actually target them and was wondering if anyone had any tips or strategys on hunting them.

So far what has worked the best for me is finding where they roost and sneaking up on them with about 15 minutes legal daylight left. You can often get within about 20 yards if they havent been shot at before.

They are a protected bird in Texas and most of the rest of the US. Ever so often Texas Parks and Wildlife talks about having a limit on them during waterfowl season....it never pans out.

I would love to whack a few hundred of them!

A friend of mine has quite a spread in TX. He has a BIG lake full of trophy bass. The Corrmorrnats seem to like to eat them.

It's open season there and the alligators love them.

Planning an outing for them next week and ill try to post some picks if I whack any.

Ill be taking out the browning silver stalker 3 1/2" mag and some bb blackcloud . There seems to be hundreds of them hanging around the comercial fishing nets very close to my place.

My weapons of choice would be .222Rem, .221Fireball
or maybe some 1-5/8oz #6 Wingmaster HD 12ga

You've just added a varmint to my life's list. I had no idea you could whack cormorants in Canada. Sounds way fun and good luck.

Yes you can shoot them up here, but only in some provinces. Some provinces they are protected for some reason, but luckily not in New Brunswick.

Managed to get a few cormorrants out of my kayak but they were pretty hard to get close to as they had been shot at by the fisherman nearby already. I ended up setting up on a thouroughfare between 2 lakes and pass shooting them once they got wise to the kayak trick. Shot 2 one day and 6 another day. Also had a pretty close encounter with a beaver.

Nope

As the owner bass and catfish lake that warms my heart. I use high brass 7 1/2 12ga, on the wing and nest. 5.56 is also a kick to see them explode!

Nice pictures, I ended up shooting the cormorants with winchester 3" (76mm) magnum bb since the 3 1/2" shells had pretty heavy recoil to be shooting out of a moving kayak especially on broadside shots.
