If you ever get the time I believe that the CDC has some pretty good info and charts on rabies that you may find quite interesting. Truth is, not too maybe years ago you didnt have rabies as it was brought to 'kinda' your neck of the woods by several hunters interesting in hunting coons. So with the coons came the rabies. If you do find the charts that Ive seen (in my university during a medical virology class) you may not seem so surprises with the number of cases your hearing of. Typically the more small critters such as skunks, etc having to do with either more rain eqauling more frogs equaling more skunks type of deal or other pressures or lack of that will have to do with an increase in rabies in an area.

Good luck and dont pet any skunks ,
Justin

I heard on the radio while in Cape Cod last week there's over 40 confirmed cases in racoons and 3 people were being treated.
