I have just had my .223 coneverted to AI and after fireforming when I run them through my new Redding neck die they seem to be squeezed in the body area. When I use the seating die it also seems to squeeze and there is what I would think is excessive force needed to retract the case. My case bodies do not measure much more than .001 over any of the other cases that I haven't yet fireformed. Does Redding manufcture their dies that tight? Is my fireforming load of 26 gr H335 topped with a 55gr FMJ/PSP just over pressure? Is my chamber possibly cut too large? I would appreciate any help. Dog-duster

If I were you, I'd drop the fireform load down to a "starting load". See if the results you describe are the same. If so, contact Redding and describe your problem, they are very helpful. Next, make a chamber casting and mike it. If A+B does not equal C, talk with the person who chambered the barrel.

What are the specs on the chamber reamer? My guess is the shoulder diameter will be the dimension altered the most. Clymer has a shoulder dia of .3700 on their printClymer My reamer print has it at .3687 Reamer is from Pacific Tool

Unfortunately, in some cases the die does not match the reamer. It is pretty common. With my .223 AI, I had the smith who built it make me a die with the same reamer he chambered it with, so I don't have that problem with mine. I did have a similar problem with a 6 br recently, and I went through 3 dies before finding one that matched well. (which may be what you have to do) I would take a fired case, and a sized case, and measure each at the shoulder body junction, and at the web. You also can take a case and cover it in marker pen ink, chamber it, and where the marker is rubbed off, is where it is tight. This should start to give you an idea where the problem is. ...ol blue

Dog-duster This is not an answer to your question but I thought I would offer this for info only. I have loaded aproximately 3000 .223 AI rounds with standard .223 Lee collet dies. They load very accurate amunition with very little run out. Try em you might like em, and the price is right to.
