Stopped at the place you all have read about since about March 21, 2010. You've seen pics, you've read the stories. Here's another one. It was not the grandest conditions for groundhog hunting in VA this afternoon, 15-20mph wind, overcast and a bit of rain had fallen and temps around 60 degrees.. But I really think that on this particular farm the vermin may be visible in snowstorms!! Never have seen anything like it in VA!! I had the 22-250 stashed behind the seat for the last couple days in hopes that an oppurtunity would arise. Oppurtunity came and I obliged. First up was one at 445 yards that I proceeded to miss TWICE by shooting over him (or her as since I didn't connect cannot discern)!! Next up was "dunkard preacher" standup that absorbed a 55 grain BK, center chest at 210 yards. After that came the "shot for rememberence". I spied this old hog at 580 yards and said to myself, "Self, you can't kill 'em if you don't shoot at 'em!! I got the tripod out, set the Ruger in it, checked range again with the Nikon Monarch Gold 1200, checked the wind, "straight in my face so no windage advised" and took the shot. Didn't hear the "thwap" because of the wind but did witness the "flagging of the tail"!! Now elated, I went to retrieve the beast. It was there, ear shot, very small exit with brain matter and head turned to mush under the hide!! I took pics but unless I get real computer literate soon, someone else will have to post it!! Last two of the season were what "chuckmusher" would designate as "E.L.P.'s" or "eye level peepers". Only 110 yards but "something stands out" in the distance so you scan it with the binos.............it's a chuck face!! Time for the "mirror rest" to come into play. Unmistakable "THAWP" of sending an airmail invitation home!! Put the rifle in the truck, take one last look and, "WHAT?? Did I miss?" Look through the scope and only eyeballs and side of face is visible, last cartridge in the MTM box. Chamber it, get sight picture, touch trigger..........."THWAP"! Put rifle up, place brass in box, walk to sight of last target encountered..............TWO DEAD GROUNDHOGS!! End of season!! 111 for myself, 260 for Chuckmusher, 236 of the 371 from this one farm!! Never before or probably ever again see this kind of proliferation of groundhogs in such a small area in VA!! 1976 with a permit signed by the Governor of VA we shot 246 in one year off of the VA TECH dairy farm but that was 3X the land area of what we experienced in 2010!!Varmint rifles are cleaned, put away and are awaiting next spring. Now it's time to rid the Commonwealth of VA of some big vermin!! DEER!! The 25-06's and 260's are "growling in the safes"!! Thanks for reading till the end!! GHD Groundhog Devastation(GHD)

Good shooting, Charlie! It will be interesting to see how many are left there next spring. I'm glad I was able to make that 710 yd 22-250 1st shot kill on Monday or you would have had me skunked in that department! How about us looking into calling some coyotes when you get thru with deer season? It's been a while since that Tikka .243 has had any action.

Bobby, A friend shot a deer(doe) with his bow on a place I have access to and watched it fall. He sat in the stand awhile and then he saw 6 more deer travel through the area and the deer he shot got up and tried to follow. It made it about 30 yards and laid down again. He watched and waited and then the "songdogs" showed up! They decimated the carcass before his eyes! We can hunt that place after the "big varmint" season is done.
