My choice for coyotes would NOT be a .22magnum.However, if you want one ,given your requirements ,get a Marlin stainless bolt gun with a standard weight barrel. The stainless will be easy to care for and the sporters only weight about 6lbs without a scope. They are available in a tube feed with a laminate stock or a clip feed with a synthetic stock.

I would get the clip feed with the synthetic myself,(and maybe put a factory laminate stock on it later if desired..The bedding clip fed Marlins can be tuned to a bit easier for best accuracy..

Then again, some folks like the way the tube feed guns carry(no clip sticking out the bottom) and the tube holds like 11 cartridges(plenty for each coyote encounter). The stainless laminated model will be pretty stiffly bedded so it should shoot about as well as the clip feed actually..

Don't let their simply looking actions fool you.The older 880 - and newer 980 series Marlins are tough, well made a relatively light. The actions are made from steel and they smoot up very quickly with a bit of use.

A "do it yourself" trigger job is not that hard on the Marlins and Rifle Basix makes drop in triger units for both models now.

Once a good scope is mounted and it's properly broken in,the Marlins are VERY accurate little rifles. For the $$$ they are great US made products and hard to beat..

I have a Ruger 77/22 mag, and it is a real fine shooter at 100 yds with the Remington Premier ammo (sub MOA from the bench). I have yet to shoot anything with them, but I must say I have more confidence in the .22 Mag than the .17 HMR for groundhogs on up. I also have a Marlin in .22lr, and it shoots very well. I would have to assume that the .22 Mags would shoot just as well also. Good luck with your endeavors.

I have a Marlin 882 s/s heavy barrel. it is an absolute tack driver shooting 3leaf clovers at 100yds with Rem V-Max or Win Supremes. It is not the most handsome rifle, but it shoots great. Rugers typically don't shoot as well, as stated previously. The CZ's are more visually pleasing, and are great shooters too. The new Marlin rifles have an updated trigger, I paid to have mine refined. I would go with the Marlin and put the money saved into better optics.

Let's just do a "piss off all poster's at once" reply!!!
First off, If my "intended quarry was coyotes, a rimfire would not be my "narrowed down to" choice!!! Anything we shoot should be afforded the convenience of sudden death versus serious probability of painful, excruciating, lingering death from poorly placed shots from any caliber or chambering......just too much chance for one of these with the rimfires!!
As far as manufactures go if you are dead set on a rimfire, MARLIN and SAVAGE both make excellent bolt guns in 17HMR and 22MAG!! CZ also does a great job(at a little more expense) with the rimfires(centerfires too for that matter)! Ruger.....I'd rather have a 597 Remington in whatever chambering than to have to carry one of these things all day and wonder where it might hit after pulling the 8 lb trigger!!! I feel the wrath of the Ruger owners coming down on me!!! Go ahead, let it fly!! That's why the internet is so much fun! You get all kinds of opinions from folks you never meet! But the statement about MARLIN and SAVAGE stands!!.......they do it right!! GHD

GD,

Suprise!!! I agree with you that the .22 Mag isn't enough gun for coyote. 12 ga. with buckshot should do the trick though!!!

I also know that guns are like cars... with a few exceptions, you can get a good one, or you can get a lemon, regardless of the brand.
