Just got back from Ca high desert north east of Susanville Ca. I can't seem to call a yote in.Some say best time of year is August/Sept/October. Also Febuary. Any truth to this?I use a fox pro, full camo's AR-15,I've even used mines and fuel air munitions. How does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but looses his soul

I think the best time is Oct-Dec. They start breeding in January and I have a tough time calling them in after the 1st of the year. I think the number one problem people have in calling coyotes is they do not slip into the hunting area undetected. You have to be quiet, stay out of open areas, and watch the wind.

It might just be the area where you are hunting. I'm in NW Louisiana, and we can call 'yotes just about any time of year, but the best time is right after the pups are whelped and momma is out hunting to feed herself and the pups. I use an old Olt's call, crippled rabbit, and "flip/flop" to give them a visual which cuts down on their ability to spot me. Most are taken at distance of 100 yds or less, though some have opted to stay way out and try to circle and catch the wind. That can be from 150 yds on out to 300-400 yds. But that's still a very makeable shot down here. John John
