My friend bought a savage bolt action 270 for his brother. It was on sale at Wal-Mart for $300.00 in blue version with synthetic stock. (Now on sale for $250.00) It came with a scope we bore sighted in the rifle, we took the bolt out looked down the bore adjusted the scope lined up the bulls-eye at 100yrs and within two shots were dead on. I shot a 3 shot group that measured less than 1/2" with Remington core lock bullets (yes the cheap stuff) my friend also tried it with Winchester bullets (The better stuff)the group went to over 1.5" at 100yrds. Other than the fact that the trigger was too dam heavy for me the gun shot a lot better than I ever figured it would. I am planning on buying one with an AccuTrigger in 223 with a heavy barrel and laminated stock. They may or may not have been accurate in the past but the new ones sure can shoot.

We quit shooting Remington Core Locks years ago. We used to have a metal plate that was 3/8 inch thick that we shot at 100yrds with pistols. You could hear your shot clang. Some guys were bragging about shooting deer on the run at 300yrds through the heart. Not to tell them we didnt believe them I told them to stand with no support and shoot our 8" x8" steel plate. They couldnt hit it for some reason and we never heard anymore about there running heart shots. What we learned when my friend shot at the plate with Remington core locks with no apparent expansion using his 7 Rem Mag, he tried the with Nosler solid base bullets but they would not. I shot at them with my 30-06 with solid base and they mushroomed and bounced off. This is why we quit using them they are accurate but he was afraid they would not expand. Since he bought a rifle to give to his brother that doesnt reload he wanted to find the most accurate factory ammo that his brother could afford. It just turned out to be the Remington core locks.
