lobogaBest factory .22-250(cheap) ammo for coyotes?
I have a Ruger heavy barrel tang safety .22-250 and want to use it for coyotes. I don't reload(yet) and I would like to save the pelts. Any suggestion on factory loads, preferably the less pricey ones?

LWDThe Winchester White Box with the 45 grain hollow points has a reputation for shooting lights out in most guns especially considering its price. I'm not sure how the hollow points would treat the pelts though.

The white box Winchesters group better than anything, even my best handloads, in my Ruger 77. Devastating on impact. Their is usually a big hole on the off side, though.
I'm not sure there is a way to kill them right there and not punch holes in the pelt.

LapidaryI've had good luck with Federal premium 55gr hollow points. These are Sierra 55gr Gameking BTHP's. They aren't cheap but they only exit about 50% of the time on broadside coyotes.
I am now handloading them and have improved accuracy over the factory stuff. My rifle is a Savage not a Ruger.

lobogaThe guy that sold me the rifle recommended the Federal Premiums for accuracy. I tried some at the range and for they group about the same as the Remington UMC 50 grain hollow points, but they cost close to twice as much!

Bernie P.Mine is a .223 but both the Win and Rem UMC loads shot well and were low cost.
