Erict: I viewed your response at first with anger, but then realised that you probably really don't understand a lifestyle you have never seen. You are right--this is not hunting--although there were no claims that it was. As a kid, (little), I was paid to shoot robins and blue jays. I didn't make a lot of money with that Red Ryder, but we did finally get some yield from our cherry orhard and filbert grove. My Dad occassionally shot deer in a less than legal method, because we lived off our gardens and the deer destroyed them. We had a weasel that killed every kitten born to the barn cats for a 3 year period--the barn cats controlled a serious field mouse problem. We had a big old black bear that tore up our grape arbor EVERY YEAR--It was tough trying to get grape jam for us 4 kids to share space with the peanutbutter in our sandwiches. We were not "outlaws", and lived pretty much like all our not so near neighbors. My dad was a school teacher/principal in a very rural area in the Oregon coast range--like everyone else he made little, but we lived well if the gardens and orchards did well. We lived on salmon, steelhead, and venison--ducks and grouse as well. To this day, I can rarely eat salmon or steelhead. I still really like venison and elk, however. My point is that yours is NOT the same world as that lived in by some others--so the rules, if you will, are not the same. Neither you nor I have the right to dictate policy in a place we do not live--unless we are harming each other....Chuck

Seems to me, cutting to the chase, the problem is the wife and kids! Use a couple pillows and some duct tape on each offending set of ears, and shoot away.

Yukoner -

Got your PM - thanks for taking the time to explain "the rest of the story".

Yukoner and ChuckD -

Regardless of whether I agree with you or not, the important thing is that we have a place here where we are free to express our opinions - keep contributing - the different views seen here is what makes this page interesting!

look under 'Interesting Articles' for 'To Bee or 223 - reduced power loads' Allthough primarily for 223 there is a paragraph telling you how to adapt the loads to 222rem.

Note to all: There are many good points made here. Everyone here has the same basic thoughts but we as a people have become soft and to many are often offended by those who say it like it is.

Yukoner lives in a part of the world that is almost as wild as it gets, but erict also lives in what I call a wild place,,LOL Hunters now are reduced to saying that they harvested a deer instead of the fact that they killed it to eat it, so not to hurt the feelings of the non-hunter. This same non-hunter thinks nothing of going to KFC or burger king or flopping a t-bone down on the grill and eating the meat that someone else did all the work to make ready.
Look up the word Harvest, and tell me where it says anything about hunting and killing and prepairing meat for your family. I don't care if its politicaly correct or not I hunt and kill for a reason and I'm not going to be afraid to say so.
I have chosen not to weeken and bend to the "new way of thinking" I'm old school and proud of it and of them that taught it to me.
I say Kill'it and Grill'it cause huntin ain't catch and release. Take a kid out so they to can learn the ways of our grandfathers.

With this being said, I'm gonna go kill a coyote

Plastic coke bottle stuffed with steel wool works great. After a few shots mash the steel wool around again and you are back in business. I got this from "Hayduks book of Silencers"

I was going to build a shooting hide from hay bales as a target range, but the tyre idea sound a lot better!

Two rows of hay bales will really kill the report of a rifle.

I guess I need some sensitivity classes to be more like Yukon.

I had to go potty about 03:30 the other morning, I did the deed and went to the sink to get a glass of water,I could see something moving outside, low and behold! One of the biggest 'yotes I ever saw, trying to get in the trash can.

Oh crap! main gunsafe is in the bedroom, no problem the milsurp safe is in the den, Grab a rifle and a fist full of ammo, ease the back door open, ease out on the back porch, line up the sights and squeeze one off,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
A FRIGGIN' 7.62X54R!! FROM AN M44 CARBINE!!!!!!!
My ears are still ringing, and wifey did not find it in the least bit amusing.

BTW, I got that sucker!

1894,

thanks for the info. It is exactly what I was looking for.

Terry8mm,
[Big Grin] That is a good one. Glad you got your yote.
Do what you did a few more times and YOUR wife will be teaching you senitivity lessons. How do you think I became more sensitive about these issues. [Wink] The novelty of 'my stunts' have long ago worn off.

Yuke, the Blue Dot loads at James Calhhon's site are wonderful if Hornet/Bee performance is enough for you. I've also written about those loads, and you can read it at my website, www.reloadingroom.com. For those with larger rifles who need less violent loads (i.e. that 7.62x54R!), you can also read about loads with Unique and RedDot.

BTW, here in the USA, ANY device which attaches to the muzzle and reduces muzzle blast is highly illegal, even that cute soda bottle trick and the lawn mower muffler. (Just in case any US readers are tempted to see if they really work!) They are fun until the moment you get caught (or turned in), and then they ain't.

Hi there Rocky. Glad to see you got control of your site!

To be complete, there is nothing illegal about silencers, as long as they are registered, and you pay the tax!

I have one on my list to get for varmint control on the farm. I'm tired of having to wait 90 minutes for the buggers to come back after a shot! FWIW, Dutch.
