Does anybody load these other than Black Hills? "I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me." -- General George S. Patton

I just started reloading these for my .223. I've got a Savage 24F over under I've been using for a snowmachining gun that I want to shoot these out of. I haven't gone to the range yet but will later this week or next and am anxious to see how they group. Also, anxious to see what they will do to a coyote.

GVG, Can't answer you that. However I recently loaded and shot a few of the 36 gr. 22 cal. vg's in a Sako 223. Here are a couple of groups fired last Sunday afternoon at 100 yds off the bench. When I started the wind wasn't a factor, but by the time I got to these two loads it was blowing in excess of 10 mph and gusting higher. Might could have done better on a calmer day. I had also put about 40 rounds down the tube that day before these groups were shot. These two groups were fired consecutively. I loaded up 25 to try out on some varmints using the 25.3 gr load density. I also loaded up some 53 gr triple shocks. To my suprise they both shot to basically the same point of impact in my Sako. Neat, I can shoot varmints, hogs and deer with the same rifle, just have to distinguish between the loads. GWB 223 rem. 36 gr. Barnes Varmint Grenades, 24.6 gr Reloader 10X, Federal 205m primers, 2.190 oal. six shot group, 3440, 3381,3408,3432,3369,3405 fps. 223 rem. 36 gr. Barnes Varmint Grenades, 25.3 gr Reloader 10X, Federal 205m primers, 2.190 oal. 3 shot group, 3601,3505,3546 fps.

Well I was looking for factory loadings, of course now I am looking for factory loadings in stock. But if you are getting great groups handloading out of these then I am all ears. I will be handloading for a Savage 12 bvss (I think that's right) and possibly my fathers' Remington .223 SPS varmint. Will this bullet hold up to 220 swift, 22-250, and .223 wssm velocities? How about the .20 cal version in 5mm SMC? "I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me." -- General George S. Patton

GVG, Barnes manual #4 shows loading the 36 gr. with max load of 40 gr. RL 15, 98% load density and velocity of 4417 fps. They also show BLC-2 as the most accurate powder with load densities from 37 to 40.5 grains, and velocity from 3961 to 4348 fps. I only tried one powder and three different load densities and did so in only one of my 22-250's These groups were shot off the bench at 100 yds. Tried 39 gr. 40 gr and 40.5 gr of BLC-2. The 39 gr. load shot the best, but once again this was the last three groups of the day and I had put about 50 rounds down the tube before I shot these groups. I could have pulled the shot on the 40 gr. group, but I don't think I did so on the 40.5 gr group. Day was calm so wind was not a factor. Had not cleaned the rifle since before the last outing. I plan to clean the barrel and try again with a couple of different powders. As you can see, I would use the 39 or 40 gr. load. I think the 40.5 gr load is too much. I have not tried them in my swift yet. GWB 22-250, Barnes 36 gr. varmint grenades, 39 gr. BLC-2, 2.350" oal, Fed 210m, 4020,4059,4082 fps 22-250, Barnes 36 gr. varmint grenades, 40 gr. BLC-2, 2.350" oal, Fed 210m, 4266, 4168, 4268 fps 22-250, Barnes 36 gr. varmint grenades, 40.5 gr. BLC-2, 2.350" oal, Fed 210m, 4346, 4329, 4312 fps

GVG, I'm impressed with anyone who can get Barnes Varmint Grenades to shoot. Don't get me wrong - we want them to shoot - the bullet speaks for itself as far as ballistics go - our results have been otherwise. Maybe we're not holding our tongues right but our Gang of Shooters here in "The Fatherland" have tried the 36 gr. Whizz-Bangs in .22 Hornets, .222, .223 & 22-250 Remingtons with s Shit-Load of Rifles, Powders, OAL's and have yet to get a positive response. Enlighten us! Please! Cheers, Number 10
