Not familiar with T-680 powder, but seems appropriate for the Fireball.
Assuming it's related to the WW680/AA1680 family?

Mulerider,
T-680 is right in there with the old Win. 680 and AA 1680. It works well with 22 Hornets, 218 Bee's, 25-20 etc. It runs through a measure like water. I've used it for at least 15 years and probably longer. I've just about settled on it for my 40 gr. Vmx loads in the 221 Fireball. It's very accurate in my rifle. You can go to the "Thunderbird Cartridge Corp." and talk to the nice Lady after 3:00 PM. http://www.tbirdammo.com/ Her name is Judy. The powders are priced good. Godsdog.

I just got 16lbs of T-680. My dad gave me what he had left over. He used it mostly in his 22 hornets. I know this is pretty fast powder. What have you used it in besides your 221. So far I have loaded up some .222 rem with AA-1680. How close is this powder to AA-1680? by the way my load is the starting point where AA-1680 list in their book. I will need to chrono some rounds and see what I get.

thanks

Jason

The 221 Fireball in my Rem 700 LS 24 inch barrel likes the 50 Gr. V-Max with 18.3 Gr.RL7,Rem.7 1/2 primer,in Rem. brass. Avg MV 3010 FPS. I`v not tried the 40 Gr. bullets yet,but the 40 Gr. V-Max should be a good bullet for Prairie Dogs. I`d like to see more post on the 40 Gr. loads.

T-680 is similar to AA 1680. Some of my other loads in different Calibers are:
218 Mashburn Bee/45 gr. HP/ 16.0 gr. T-680 (Medium Load)
I have a TC Contender Rifle with a 21" Barrel in 22 Hornet and I monkeyed around with T-680 in it and came to the conclusion that with 35, 40, & 45 gr. bullets, As long as you don't compress the powder, even a Dummy couldn't blow himself up! Here's my loading notes:

22 Hornet - 45 gr. Rem. HP - CCI-500 (Pistol) - T-680 Powder

12.0 gr. T-680/45 gr. hp = 2328 fps oal=1.687"
12.7 gr. T-680/45 gr. hp = 2530 fps oal=1.687
13.3 gr. T-680/45 gr. hp = 2633 fps oal=1.687
13.8 gr. T-680/45 gr. hp = 2629 fps (I think the Chrono had a misread) fps should = 2700 plus/minus
14.3 gr. T-680/45 gr. hp = 2816 fps Note: Bullet started to compress powder at oal-1.782. This T-680 is pretty dense and I don't think it should be compressed too much, if at all. Not that pressure will build but you might fubar the case. None of the above loads showed any Pressure signs in my rifle.
---------------------------------------------------------
Loads with Hornady 35 gr. VMX
14.5 gr. T-680/35 gr. vmx = 2895 fps oal=1.732"
15.3 gr. T-680/35 gr. vmx = 2942 fps oal=1.745" just a slight compress on the powder.
You can load the bullets out to the lands nearly in a TC Contender but you'd have to keep them shorter depending on what rifle with what type Magazine you have. If I load these to my Win. Mod. 43, the powder loads would be regulated by my oal using T-680. Godsdog

tuck: my experience with AA1680, and godsdog use of T680, indicate these are a great choice for max efficiency in the Fireball w/40gr pills; LiLGun being so similar in performance as to be an equal. When I first started seeing 3500+fps over the chrony, I was surprised. Accuracy in my Fireballs is slightly better with 1680 vs LilGun, but not by much. Godsdog results (velocity) seem only marginally slower. I believe Hodgdon markets a surplus (H-116?)that is the equiv of 1680.
I have great results with Sierra's 40hp, and am still trying Barnes 40gr Varminators. Both lower cost than the poly-tipped stuff, but only slightly lower BC.

I'm shooting a Rem. 700 "Classic" Fireball with the 24" Barrel, and I'm really liking the 40 gr. vmx over 19.2 gr. of T-680 @ 3432 fps. These loads aren't maximum, just accurrate. I don't like the $10 to $12 per Hundred price I pay for 40 gr. vmx's. I'm going to try the Sierra 45 gr. Spitzer @ $8.50 and see how it stacks up accuracy-wise. I know how they perform in my Hornets and the 222 Rem and I think it will do well in the Fireball. I've always found that a "SOFTPOINT" will smack a squirrel harder and make him fly higher than a Hollow-point most of the time. Vmx's shoot so well and they fly squirrels real good too, just the cost hurts. Next test loads will be 221 Fireball - 45 gr. Sierra Spitzer SP and 19.2 grs./T-680. We'll see what happens. < !--color--> < !--color--> Godsdog.

I'd also suggest trying the Hornady 45 gr. Hornet bullet. It shoots like a dream through my Kimber 223 and has a higher BC than the Sierra bullet.
