skid2964Older Remington 700 Varmint ...
Are the older Remingtons (80's) considered much more consistantly accurate (from rifle to rifle) than the Remingtons of today? I have a chance to buy an old Varmint rifle(hasnt been fired much, cal 243) and was wondering what kind of accuracy should be expected from it ...

OkieNewtonI have one in 6mm remington that will bump holes at 100 yds. with handloads. I think mine was made in the early 80's. I bought in new in the box. I think if the price is right you should try it.

craigsterI have a 1st year production 700 in 222 that is very, very accurate. I bought it used, the barrel shows some signs of neglect, but it still shoots tiny groups.

Cal SibleyIf the rifle is from the 80s it's probably quite accurate. This was Remington's hey-day for accurate varmint rifles. Even now, with a house full of varmint rifles I'd yank a good one up in a heartbeat. Best wishes.

groundhog devastationThere's a very nice one in 25-06(God's gift to rifledom!) listed in the classifieds right now!!! I know the rifle(I shot it using old brass and my hastily put together loads to test it!) and the guy selling it and this one is a good example of what used to be out there!!!
