I need a recommendation for bullet choice for 1-10 twist. What is the lightest bullet this combination will stabilize? Thanks, Stepchild

I have just finished testing and chronographing loads with various powders with the Sierra 69 Grain HPBT (moly). My rifle has a Rem 700 action, 24.5 inch Shilen SS barrel with 1 in 10 twist. I am using a 22/250 AI with 28 degree shoulder, which has a case capacity of 49.0 grains. I found that the Sierra 69 grain would produce groups of .6 moa or better with almost every load. Many of the 3 shot groups went between .25 and .4 moa. Testing velocities ranged from 3100 - 3430 fps. I tried the Berger 70 grain VLD, and it produced 2 - 3 inch groups. Berger recommend using a 1 in 9 twist with these bullets, and after just 15 shots with the bullet seated just touching or into the lands, I am inclined to agree. Out of curiousity I would like to try the Nosler 69, and the JLK 70 VLD, and I do have about 300 Hornady 68 grain HPBT's, but I will leave them in the cupboard, as the Sierra 69's work so well. I don't want to wear out the throat of the barrel testing bullets. I do have some 55 and 60 grain bullets which I could try, but decided against it. I used this barrel for 1600 shots as a .224 Clark prior to rechambering to the 22/250 AI. In the 224 Clark, the 69 grain Sierra HPBT gave good accuracy at 3850 fps and terrific performance in the field, so I am hooked on using the heavier bullets, as I found that they are certainly an advantage in the wind past 250 yards. As every barrel is different, the only way you could find out which of the lighter bullets will hold together, and shoot accurately is by testing them in your barrel. Good luck, Brian.
