What distance do others like to zero their .223's in at?
Currently I run a 50gr vmax at 3100 and sight just under +2/100yds. Most shots calling are under 100yds, but I feel that sight in is good for the 223. UNder 100yds its 3/4" high at 50, but only 2.5" low at 250yds.

I've thought of zeroing at 100yds, but that just doesnt feel right to me with this caliber

I like to zero at 1" high @ 100 yds.

I use Sierra 55grn gameking bthp at 3400 fps on red fox. I sight in 1-1/2 inches high at 125 yds. this gives me a 3inch kill zone out to 250 yds. This allows me to zero at 40 yds and it's back on at 200yds and 3 inches low at 250yds. Every time this bullet has hit the target, it has killed.

Fortune, what's the terminal performance like on a fox? I run 55 grainers at 3300 out of mine for coyotes, and I'm a little (well, actually a lot) worried about shredding the pelt on bobcats and foxes. Both are "targets of opportunity" around the farm. TIA, Dutch.

If someone doesn't mind, could I get those recipes for 50-55 grain bullets at 3300-3400 fps? I run 55 grain Ballistic tips but have only got to 3100 with my most accurate load. Sure it shoots bugholes out of may Savage but hey let's run 'em up a little and see what happens.

I shoot 50 grain balistic tips in my 223 loaded with 27.7 grains of W748, winchester brass, and federal 205 match primers. This load really cooks but does not show any signs of excessive pressure and I get great accuracy out to 300 yards with it. Please note that this load is 2.7 grains above listed max so I would suggest working my way up to it .5 grains at a time. But it has sure been a yote whacker for me.

I myself use 40grain V-max with max load of varget. @3600fps. I sight in at 1" high for 100 yards. Max range in Michigan where I hunt is about 250 yards. So I just aim straight on. If you want a good ballastic program go to varmint al's web site, under reloading I think. He has a link there for a program that is great, tell it the bullet, speed height of scope, target speed, angle.... will give you a printout of what your bullet will do out to 1000 yards in whatever increments you want.

I have not shot a fox or bobcat with this load so I don't know what it would do to them. I have shot groundhogs. feral cats(no collars [Wink] ) raccoons and coyotes with this. NONE have exited so far. I have also dusted many crows with it but they just explode.

Handlaoder,
I currently run 27gr w748 under the 50gr vmax. Quite accurate load(1/4" and less) sometimes, but around 1/2" always, when the barrel is clean, which is difficult w/ 748!
But, my velocity is only 3100fps. I'm probably loaded out longer than you and perhaps larger chamber. Oh, I also use win bras and Fed match primer
