Accuracy Systems says they can rebarrel my Mini-14, 223 into a .204 Ruger. .900 24" stainless barrel, two stage match trigger, new gas block, bedding, drill and tap for scope mount ... etc. Good idea?

I'm with george on this one,,The ar-15 would be a better platform to build on.I have two lowers,,and 3 different uppers,,And can have a different rifle in seconds. Also you can easily float the barrel on a ar-15,and you can get a true scope rail.I have had 2 different Mini's,Both left me wanting better accuracy, and annoyed. You have to clean them from the muzzle, and,if you hit the bolt,,the bolt goes home, unless you totally strip it.I sold the first one thinking maby I got a lemon,,Then the same performance with the second one,I traded it in on an ar,,,,much happier,Clay

Interesting ... I have had two mini 14's. Neither were anything to write home about. Sold the first one, and decided to make the second one a shootin' fool. Accuracy Systems guarantees MOA from their rifles when they are done (with the particular package I have chosen). They say that most will shoot better than MOA. I believe that is probably true, we will see. It is a "truck gun" mainly for controling coyotes. But I will use it in other applications as well. I am using the mini-14 because I have one and I am bored with it. I do not have a AR, or I would definitely take the advice given and convert that instead. Don't have the money or desire to buy an AR either. Their packare includes: New 24" match grade barrel (.900" all the way, not tapered down at the gas block) New gas block Pillar bedding New hand guard Trigger job Seeing how I do not want to buy an AR, do you guys still think it is a mistake? I could do a true 1" barrel over the .900". Do you think that is a better idea?

Wendell, Some pretty harsh comments on the Mini-14. But I think GHD forgot my Ruger #1 in there....shame on him....LOL Can we ask you what kind of cash Accuracy Intl wants for the work being done? An MOA is an MOA (even at 500 yards :-) so if you can get a good deal on your rifle go with it. I do know Les Baer (droooooool) has a .204 Ruger AR rifle. Same price as their (drooooooool) Varminters in .223 Rem and they guarantee .5MOA. Most companies won't guarantee any MOA, just ask Remington or Ruger, or Browning, or Savage...I think Weatherby does, on their top of the line rifles. Correct me if I'm wrong here. JIm
