We live in Austin, TX and are looking for the best P DOG hunting that we can either drive to (there might be some in the Pan Handle or OK) or fly to.

Any recommendations?

Call the county extension agent in one of the panhandle counties. They have lists of farmers/ranchers that would love for you to come out. That is how we do it.

Austin Hunter: I just retired from the newspaper industry while living in Grants, New Mexico. I used to hunt the hell out of p-dogs on State Highway 117 south of Grants. Take the highway about 26 miles or so south of Grants and you will come to a huge valley area with BLM land on your left (heading south on the road) and National Park Service land to your right. You can shoot on the left side of the road, but not on the right side. That valley also holds a large herd of elk and some cattlemen run cattle in there as well. All you have to do is pull off the road, go between the strands of barb wire on the fence and start shooting. If you keep going south on the road you will come to a dirt road leading into the wilderness area. Go up about 1.2 miles and you will be in the middle of another large p-dog town. There are also a lot of p-dogs on property along the Interstate between Grants and Gallup. It isn't easy to get permission there, however, though it can be done. Good luck ... Tom Purdom
